Hey Guys;

Well, as promised, here are pics of my new pup Nos (a German Wirehair "Drahthaar") & his journey to become a "well mannered gun-dog"... This morning was his 3rd duck hunt & he got to retrieve 4 ducks. Two of which he had to work for on difficult retrieves, and one of them was in "swamp hell" which I truely didn't think he was going to find... But HE DID on his 3rd search! So friggen proud of him when he came back with that duck!!!

Back @ it tomorrow! YAHOO!!!

Cheers
Jay

Nice, at 11 my Drahthaar still has lots of drive but the cold water is hard on her, so she's on light duty / couch duty.
Will you use him for deer as well?
Where did you get your dog from?

Nice dog. Suprising how often they know more than we do when searching for downed birds. I was getting pissed at Poacher when he was 2 because he kept ranging away from where I marked a bird in the weeds. On the third trip out, I said, "#### it" and let him wander. He went 60 yards from where I had marked and came back 20 minutes later with a lively mallard.

Good pics and congrats on the pup.

Not sure if I will use Nos for deer, locating a deer that's been lost, YES. Just not sure if I will let him or encourage him to run them...

Nos was bred in Nova Scotia & comes from the Vom Dan-Son kennel.

Sweet!

How's he taking the sound of gunfire?

No problems. Nos was introduced to gunfire by way of a cap gun, then got him doing super-jumps into the river to get his dummy, then started with the 209 primers when he did the super-jumps. He's so focused on retrieving, he ignores the shot(s).

As mentioned, he's "green", but it sure is funny to see him jump out of the boat & swim like mad for the decoys when we shoot... Unfortunately, "sometimes" :redface: there isn't anything to retrieve... ha ha ha

haha, thats the reason I keep my 10 month old lab tied up to the boat when i duck hunt.

how long you out with the dog? mine has only been on 3 hunts, but he seems to get really bored and restless after a couple of hours and no retrieves.
