Hey all.
I ordered one of those unissued Walther p1 pistols still in the wrapping from one of the sponsors and I'm awaiting it's arrival.
Who has received one of these pistols and what are your opinions of them?

Well I got my pistol and it's nice except it is not unissued nor is it a modern one with a hex pin...
Looks like some good serviceable ones that were preserved for future use. Advertised as 1987 but received a 1964. Year was not too big a concern except preferred the reinforced ones.
Looks like quite a bit of wear for a new gun if you ask me... What do you all think?
Don't want to be a pain in the ass if it's not warranted.

If you paid more then $500 for it, send it back and get one from Tradex. They really are not that spectacular of a pistol, so you may as well get one that you want....ie latest version with heavy slide, hex pin.

These were $300 just a few years ago BTW...used of course, but basically with completely refurbished top ends that looked like new, frames showed some wear.

Yea price was ok if it truly was new, but it's not and not as advertised. They want me to pay to ship it back with no refund...
Not too impressed as it is not really close to the description. Grrr

Well as it was pointed out, the pistol received is not new and if you paid 500+tax +shipping then its too much. My I got from Tradeex few years back which was new and I mean new as not a single round was fired. Mostly these pistols are surpluss so some wear on them is acceptable. P1 is a weird pistol where locking block hammers with each shot in shearing type action on the frame. To minimise this later pistols were fitted with hex pin. So if you plan on shooting this pistol alot then get one with hex pin.

Exactly. I'm going to be pretty poed if they make me pay to ship this damn thing back.
Getting tired of paying for others mistakes

Well it looks like they will make it right for me and refund.
I'll pick one up from weimajack, since he has confirmed his are 100% new 1985. I trust him.

He likely got them from Tradex as well. I'd honestly assume there will be some wear, even if stated NOS. I also would not pay a premium for one of these if the plan is to shoot it a bunch, maybe NOS for a collection that won't be fired..they are pretty mediocre all around.
For $500 you would be better with one of those Girsan 92 clones.... If I was to sell my P1 above with 3 mags I'd prob ask $400 and it would sit for a while on the EE.

I asked him and he confirmed his 100% brand new. He even has a couple sequential ones if anybody is interested.
I would love a used hex pin gun, but people won't part with them for under 400$ usually without a spare mag or holster.
The extra couple pesos for a brand new gun with spare mag and holster seems like the way to go. These guns fit my hand well as a bonus

Thats the thing though, as soon as you put a few rounds through it, it's a $300-$400 pistol at best lol. The frame wears immediately with these.
I've never been impressed with mine....it's got way too many parts, double action trigger is atrocious, build quality is not overly durable which is why they were overhauled so often in Germany, accuracy is not great, and they were not exactly praised by the folks that carried them either.
I could see an all steel WWII piece having some appeal, but not these so much lol

Well I'd take yours off your hand since it's so inferior ;)

I bought a P1 last week (not from a site sponsor) who had advertised it as "brand new, unissued, 1987production". It was not.

It was made in 1965 and had seen two trips to the arsenal for upgrades/refurbishing in 1979 and 1981 according to the engravings on the gun.

When I contacted the vendor four days ago, he basically said that that was the way it was described from the distributor, so that was the way he advertised it. As of today, his site still advertises as "new, unissued".I returned it for refund and also requested he reimburse me for return postage, since the reason for the return was his bogus advertising.

I think the vendor should open the remaining sealed packages to verify if the remaining ones are brand new, and then adjust his advertising accordingly. That is the ethical thing to do, since he has been advised that at least one (and maybe more from reading this string) is not as advertised.

I'm very upset with this situation and all I can advise is "caveat emptor".
