Nosler accubond .224 70 grain

I guess the ideas for rifle bullet ballistic preferences are regional. I agree with DMS-1, down our way, coyotes are really heavily pounded. If you get presented with an opportunity its is often fleeting. Maximum PBR sight in isnt a bad idea. I built an 8 twist 22-250 around the 75gr vmax. It shot accurately. It bucked wind great. I had the leupold ballistic dial and it stacked them in there at all the ranges..... but I ended up finding an accurate and fast load for the 60gr ballistic tip. It's a better match for the way varmints behave down in southern canada. No time to twist dials.

Everyone needs to check out the speer 75 grain gold dot bonded rifle bullets as well, probably half the price of the noslers or scirocco heavy bullets.

But when something needs a hole in it I just use the .308 and dont worry.

Here's what I did with the 70gr Accubond from the 22 Creedmoor (26" barrel)

Nosler 70gr Accubond @ 2.595" OAL (.038" off lands)

Hornady brass
F210M primer
~

42.7grs RL23 - 3619 fps, 0.84moa 3 shot 309y
41.5grs RL23 - 3534 fps, 1moa 3 shot 411y

70gr Nosler Accubond @ 3460 fps with 40.7grs RL23, 0.85moa @ 100y, 1.1moa @ 405y. This is the load I settled on

There’s always something bigger, better, faster and flatter. I don’t think I’d shoot 500 yards at anything alive with a 223, regardless of the bullet.

On critters, no way near that range fer me. An amigo of mine dumped a nice bull moose years back with a brain shot using the old Speer 70 gr SP at about 60 yds. His rifle was a Ruger No 3 in .22 Hornet. Weird how things work out at times.
