nosler balistic hunting???

I assume that you are talking about Nosler Ballistic Tip? If so, I have shot a few thousand of them, between target shooting, and big game hunting. They tend to be quite accurate, and expand quite rapidly, but they vary dramatically in toughness, based on caliber and weight.

Agree, in my experiences they are a bit too fragile for closer range hunting.Slow them down a bit and I am sure they would work better on game.Nosler has a bonded bullet you may want to try out, but a bit higher priced.

In some cases, yes, in some cases, they are quite tough, the problem is that this varies so dramatically with specific calibers and bullet weights. I killed eight elk and two moose with 180gr Ballistic Tips launched at 3340fps out of my 300RUM, and they held together just fine, yet the 165gr version, is quite soft. The .277" 130gr version, is likely one of the softest Ballistic Tips in the hunting series, yet the .284" 120gr version, is much tougher.

The .284 120gr. has been said to hold together very well by several well known US gun writers.I've been told by Steve Timm that the .264 120 gr. is the same, and will be trying it out in my 6.5 Rem Mag. Mur

I agree. Had quite a few issues with an early lot of 30 cal 165 gr out of a 30-06, way too fragile a bullet for big game. Switched to Barnes X, huge difference on game. I hear they have thickened the jackets a tad on that particular bullet, but I haven't retried them, as of yet. - dan

I've taken them up to 3600 fps or so in the STWs and 'Bees. Kill deer sized game like lightening, make a hell of a mess, may not exit and are rather easy to get to shoot.
The Partition kills like lightening, makes a hell of a mess, probably will exit and can be picky about whether they will shoot or not. On deer it may just come down to how many holes you want in the hide.

Both make any debate about whether deer ribs are edible rather academic, and usually eliminate any thoughts of boneing out shoulders. That reduces boneing time to a fraction.;)

So you hunting for meat and you want venison because they did not get antibiotics, vaccines and so on so now you going to inject this meat with heavy metal called LEAD from your choice of bullet and than eat it....Good thinking here.

WTF? Are you serious? When you kill the game, the area with lead exposure is cut away. It is not injected - meaning it does not have time to flow through-out the body as vital organs are damaged killing the animal near instantly. The game also lives a life up till that point where it is not being brought up for the sole purpose of consumption. It has freedom to roam and eat a normal diet for its habitat, not one that is expressly designed to grow it quickly.

I will still eat non-game meat, as im not particularly worried about the antibiotics, vaccines and so on, but given the choice I'll pick game meat any time due to a much better taste. Now add on all the benefits described above, and its a no-brainer.

We are going 100% unleaded as of this season for meat animals.

Barnes TSX, TTSX, Hornady GMX, Nosler E-Tip, GSCustom.

too much paranoia about lead bullets.nobody i hunt with or there familys have ever got lead poisioning. only the animals have died from lead. i will continue to hunt with what ever shoots well, preferering bonded lead core.

I would suggest moving to a Biosphere geodesic dome for absolute pollutant isolation.
Ever eaten fish? More heavy metals and other harmful chemicals in ANY fish than in a deer shot with a ballistic tip bullet.....
Which brings us back to the thread.

BTW, copper, tin, antimony, bismuth, cadmium, molybdenumactinium, polymerized petroleum (plastic, teflon)c, etc are all toxic so
Barnes TSX,TTSX,Hornady GSX, Nosler E tip,GSC ustom are not pollutant free in the long run either. They just don't contain lead in significant quantities.

They do retain 95+% of their weight however, meaning less fragments in the meat.

Guys. This is wandering into the realm of the bizarre. I watched the video. They mentioned no controls - ie. what about ground venison from bow killed deer? - how many metal fragments came from the grinders or other sources. They fail to mention that the supposed three-D image could reflect any metal, a even bone fragments depending on imaging technique. I'm a wildlife biologist and we've run fluoroscopes for detecting lead shot among other things. I don't give too much credence to what I saw presented. As was mentioned above, clean your game well, cut out the blood shot meat (why anybody would want to grind this up is beyond me) and you can eat to your hearts content. I do and I've never lost a wink of sleep worrying about dying of lead poisoning. Given the amount of thunderstorms we've been having lately it seems a damned site more likely that I'll be hit by lightning - but that thought doesn't keep me awake at night either.

Back to the point. Have been killing deer for 25 plus years with 130 Nosler ballistic tips out of my 270. Majority were broadside lung shots from 40 to 250 yards, which is what they were designed for I believe. I use 130 gr partition if I want a tougher bullet for moose.

Yes, back to the point - 165 grain Ballistic tips at 2700-3000 in .308's and .30-06's; and 140 grain ballistic tips in 7mm's from 7x57, .280, 7x64 and 7mm mag have all resulted in spectacular kills on deer. Never had one exit though. Have shot deer with 180 grain .338's and they blow right through. Actually due less damage than the 7mm and .308 bullets mentioned. Justt read an article by John Barnsness and he notes that Nosler has toughened up the .270, 7mm, and .308 ballistics tips since their introduction. Newer production might actually exit but I still have a crapload of older ones so I guess it will be a while before I find out.

I should also mention that accuracy with all of the Ballistic Tips has ranged from very good to spectacular.

In 338 cal, i had horrible accuracy problems with them at 400m. Cant talk about expansion for the hunting side as i never took a load of them that far. Accuracy was very unimpressive. Sticking with the matchkings, and lapua FMJ-BTLB's.

Has anybody loaded these bullets yet?? how are they shooting??
