Nosler ballistic tip?

Does anyone have any experience with Nosler ballistic tip bullets?

I bought a box of Federal Vital Shok cartridges the other day loaded with them hoping they'd be more accurate in my 280 than the Fusions I have but now am having "buyer's remorse" reading some reviews about their performance on deer sized animals. I hunt black bears too.

From my experience, and I understand Nosler may have changed their design since then, was that BTs did a lot of meat damage on big game animals.

Ballistic tips will kill the hell out of deer, and usually make a mess doing it. That's what they're for and that's what they do. What weight did you get?

They are 140 grain bullets Dogleg.

They will work fine. Just try to stay away from hitting bone.

Why not? Black bear aren't that big or tough.

I used 180 gr norma ballistic tip on deer and pigs
Just blows them apart
Coyotees are just pulverised

Hit the ribs and lights out.

My dad for years had a stash of the old .270 RP Bronze Tips which acted just like a Ballistic Tip.

Have some 95 grain BT's loaded in a 6mm AI, hopefully the sun makes an appearance tomorrow and try them out.

BTs make dramatic kills...if you don't like tracking...they will be your friend.

The new ones have a thicker jacket. Still explosive. But the results are immediate. There's several great YouTube videos comparing them to tsx partition and trophy bonded tip

I have killed around 30 head of deer sized animals with the 140gr Ballistic Tip, launched at 3500fps out of my 7mmstw rifles. Kills are quick and clean, but if the bullet hits a shoulder, you will lose some meat.

I've taken or seen taken more than 80 deer with 150 gr ballistic tips in 7-08, 280rem and 7mm Rem mag with not one lost deer. They are destructive if you A$$ shoot a deer but with proper placement they work as well as any other cup and core bullet I've used. The are not going to maintain 90% of their weight which seems to be the new standard but will kill deer sized game cleanly if place where they should be. For heavier game I'd go to Accubonds or Partitions as they will penetrate deeper on larger game .

I have nothing but success with these. I use 180 gr BT in my 300 WSM. Drops moose like any other good bullet. Shot placement really helps. No a$$ shots or gut shots you will be fine.
