nosler brass

The nice thing about Nosler brass is how uniform it is right out of the box. All very close in weight, all exact same trimmed length, nice mouth chamfer, etc.

Since Nosler doesn't make brass, they get large lots of brass from different makers then size, trim, and sort, I have found that some brass is softer than others. Some of it has been excellent quality, and some has been quite soft.

With all the troubles I have had lately with Winchester brass, lack of Remington brass, and dislike of federal brass, I have been using Nosler quite a bit. For the most part I am quite happy with it.

I anneal my Win brass and trim the outside necks to 14 thou to make the brass equally malleable ... Addresses the issue Cletfwynd mentioned ... I find the thickness of the Win brass is very inconsistent. I don't mind that it is a little inconsistent down the body on my mountain rifles that I shoot inside 3-400 yards ... on my long range rifle its not acceptable. Annealing and trimming the necks keeps your pressures a lot ore consistent

Nosler is definitely is far better than Win or federal brass. I think its a nice medium between the win/fed brass and the Norma/lapua brass

I think Nosler is definitely worth the few extra bucks, once you find the load your gun likes the only way to really make it better is with quality/consistent brass, Its all about consistent pressure ... In my LR rifle I run Nosler. If your not shooting past 5-600 yards I think if you put some work into Win brass its fine

I hate Fed brass ... personal opinion

When Nosler brass first became available, I bought a box of .30/06, and have never used it, its still sitting there as I have lots of Remington and Federal and some Winchester. All of the Federal head stamped '06 brass becomes 9.3X62; when a case fails during the neck expanding process, no tears are shed. Why is it that the brass I like the least seems to accumulate the fastest . . . nobody seems to leave Lapua cases laying around our range.

I have had mixed results with Nosler brass.

I bought 100 cases about 2 years ago for my 270.
The stuff was as soft as any brass I have ever encountered.
It showed pressure signs at lower than normal powder charges for the bullet I was using.
I got rid of it.

Recently picked up a box of 1F Nosler 270 brass at the range. [discarded]
Was going to toss it in the brass tub for recycling, but reasoned I should try it to see.
This stuff is much tougher, and easily withstood my max working load.

So it differs, from lot to lot, and one is well advised to watch for those "soft" lots.

I agree that Federal brass is the least desirable commercial brass.

Regards, Dave.
