Nosler Custom Competition bullets, inconsistent seating depth?

I just picked up some 140 grn. 6.5mm Custom Comp's for my .260 Rem. After finding my 10 thou off the lands COAL I made up 15 of them. I measured some random samples and some now vary in COAL by as much as 20 thou.

Is this inconsistent ogives? Or just poorly toleranced tip lengths? Anyone else have this problem?

I was told to use a comparator ( just ordered) as the tips may be deformed or inconsistent and not give accurate readings when your bullets are actually correct.

I figured that the ogive was consistent, it's likely just the tips as you say.

I have found many match bullets(same caliber and weight) to have different lengths. It is due to how the bullet is made. I think when the copper jacket is formed around the core by the die it is left that way, causing slightly different length tips I use the RCBS MIC to do a final check of proper seating depth(more of a comparator).Not really necessary as the Redding Comp seating die does a great job at making sure that every bullet is seated the same. I find measuring COAL is very unreliable. Sierra and Berger both have this and are great match bullets.

I have the Hornady comparitor and it works great ,it will give you consistant reloads
