Has anyone loaded E-Tip bullets? There is no loading data available just the instructions that the maximum load is 2 grains less than an equivalent ballistic tip bullet due to the "longer bearing surface" of their lead free gilding metal bullet. I phoned Nosler to ask if I could use the data in the Barnes #3 Manual. All the bullets in this manual are the older smooth sided bullets. I asked this because of the greater choice of powders many of which I have in stock. The answer was that the maximum load for an E-Tip should be 4 grains less than the maximum load for the eqivalent bullet in the Barnes Manual #3. Wow, is there that much difference in friction between a gilding metal E-Tip and a copper metal Barnes? Since Nosler doesn't have loading data specific for the E-Tip I assume it's a lawyer safe loading recommendation. Has anyone played with these?

I'm loading for a sporterised 98 Mauser using .323" 180 grain bullets.

Noslers reply was probably a subtle hint that barnes data might be a bit warm .CYA.
I'll be trying some .25 calibre Etips and my chrony will let me know when to stop.
