Anybody shooting the new Noslers?

I picked up a box of 7mm 150s for my 280 a couple weeks back, finally got to put some downrange, doing some velocity/pressure tests. I found the right speed, 2950 fps with H100V and now I am gonna try for accuracy. Looks like a great bullet, and the price isn't too bad either.

Yeah, how much are they?

BTW, I saw some bergers for sale in grande prairie at Hunter's Specialties, 100 .308 168 gr was $64.99, a bit much I thought.

E-Tips are pretty reasonable for what they are. Price varies from $42-48 depending on caliber/weight

BTW Berger 168s should be about $54

Yup got a stash of 150gr E Tips loaded with H 4350 in my 300...Shoots really good..Long slugs those 150 grainers.

I finally got to test the 150 Etips in my 280 this afternoon. Started with a clean bore and fired three fouling shots with 154 gr Interlocks. Following groups shot at 100 yards :

First group 3.05" :runaway:

Second group with .5 grs more powder (H100V) = 3.5" :runaway::runaway:

...but my last 2 shots of that second group landed within .38"...

Third group with .5 grs more powder = 0.82" :dancingbanana: (2950 fps)

Fired one last group with the Etips & H4831sc = 0.5" (but slow @ 2700 f/s)

so it looks like I have established they need some fouling shots down the tube before they settle down :sniper:

more testing to come

Not sure of speed but my 300 really likes 75 grains H 4350 with the 150 grainers....Might try some 150's in my STW next spring...

my Etip testing is complete

Loaded up some more loads with H100V, 6 rounds each @ 52.5 grs, 53.0 grs, 53.5 grs with the 150 gr Etip (280 Remington Rem 700 24") Went out with the fouled bore that shot so well my last 2 groups this afternoon (last two groups were .8" & .5")

my group sizes :

52.5 grs - 2.9" & 1.3"

53.0 grs - .80" & 1.6"

53.5 grs - 2.9" & 1.7"

It seems the Etips in my rifle have a very small sweet spot for accuracy/fouling. Looks like ten shots where I can depend on it to shoot well, then it falls off big time. Not acceptable in my books, I will move on to the 140 grain Barnes TTSX and see how they work.

I've never seen the E-tips so I'm just speculating...

But they look an awful lot like the Barnes X bullet with a plastic tip.

Be interesting to see if they experience some of the same issues as the Barnes X, such as fouling and inconsistent accuracy in soem rifles.

I doubt there would be expansion issues as they have the tip, but going on looks alone, they look like a step backwards in technology.

when I find really narrow sweet spots like that, switching powders (often) helps.

Nosler say that fouling shouldn't be a problem 'cause they're not pure copper (like the barneses). I'm curious to see if they'll shed petals like the fail safes, or early barns X's did (before they went to 100% pure copper)

Only got 8 Etips left, won't bother with buying any more to see if I can make them work.

Im cleaning the bore right now with Wipeout after 30 rounds of Etips. I'll post a pic of the patch tomorrow...

ok here' some pics

first 3 groups with Hodgdon Hybrid 100V powder and a clean bore + 3 rounds of Hornady Interlock foulers.

Etips003.jpg

first group on the left, 3"

second group in the middle, 3.5" (1st shot to the right, next 2 real close)

third group .8" (this got me excited and I figured the bullets just needed some fouling to begin to shoot awesome)

Fired one group with H4831sc

half inch three shot group @ 100 yards, I was VERY impressed at this point, figured the bullet would be a winner.

I had run out of ammo to test so I went back home and loaded some more of what I was shooting earlier, to re-test with a fouled bore which the load seemed to like!

here's my target

Etips005.jpg

Left squares (top & bottom) shot first, started with a 2.9" group & 1.3"

Middle squares (top & bottom) .8" & 1.6"

Right squares (top & bottom) shot last, 2.9" & 1.7"

Looks like my rifle has a 10 round window of good accuracy with these bullets before the accuracy goes downhill big time

Went home and cleaned the bore, here's what came out after only one hour of Wipeout foaming bore cleaner

If anything, the E-Tips have shown me how well WipeOut foaming bore cleaning attacks copper fouling :)

Still waiting for the bore to come out clean...maybe tomorrow

Maybe there is something to those grooves on the TSX, after all.

This is a very surprising result, considering that Nosler bullets tend to be fairly forgiving (and accurate) in my experience. From what I've seen so far, the Accubond is a fantastically accurate bullet.

I look forward to seeing other peoples' experiences with this new bullet.
