Nosler Partition Accuracy Question

i've been working on a load for my 257 weatherby using 100 gr nosler partitions. i have not been able to get them to group under 2 inches. i have a hornady SP load that shoots .6, so i'm sure the gun will shoot.

the main reason i question the bullets accuracy is that my chronograph says the load i'm using should be accurate as the extreme spread of 10 shots i've fires is 13 fps. it is the most consistant of the test loads.

i don't have much experiece with partition bullets(this is my first box) my question is, are partition bullets inherently not as accurate as other bullets, or is it just my gun doesn't like them?

the load is with 75 gr H1000, 3.170 COL at 3570 fps. the hornady SP's shoot @ 3575 fps with 76 gr of H1000 and group .6.

I have no experience with 257 weatherby but in 300 h and h 180 partitions would go 1.5 - 1.6 inches and Hornady 180's would go 1 - 1.2 and in my 7x57 mauser partitions averaged 1.6 - 1.7.

Shoot the Nosler Partitions under an inch @ 100yds with my 270 130+160gr and also 260gr in my 375H&H.

Maybe your gun just doesnt like them, or you havent found the magic load yet.

unfortunatly the 257 WBY doesn't shoot normal hunting velocities. i just got some RL-22 powder to try. maybe a little faster burning powder will help me out with the lighter bullets.

does anyone have a nosler manual that lists reccomended velocities for this bullet. my hornady manual lists best velocities for each bullet, i'm at the max. for the hornady SP so i may be at or over for the partition.

they shoot 2 inches at 100 but they may still shoot 2 inches at 300? i'll try some longer shots. is the cause of this stabilization issues?

It's possible. And yes, this is due to stabilization issues.

Switch bullets--the 100 grain TSX or 110 grain Accubond are likely to be more accurate if the partition won't shoot for you. Partitions are great bullets, no doubt about it, but I've now owned two rifles that just plain won't shoot them. I have yet to own a rifle that won't shoot the accubond or triple shock, and usually finding loads is a piece of cake.

i just got RL22 and have some 100gr tsx on order. i have stayed away from accubond because the web site says don't shoot them over 3100fps.

i have never had alot of accuracy success with any nosler bullet, i tried the partitions because i want to minimize the grenade effect the 257 WBY may do with standard bullets. i am skeptical of the TSX because i've used x-bullets and they perform like FMJ's on game.

The TSX is not like the X bullets of old. They've apparently annealed the front half to that it opens consistently at impact velocities between 3,200 and 1,800. Most of the people who have shot animals with TSX bullets will tell you that they seem to open up really well and create a uniquely destructive wound channel, like the blades of a kitchen blender driving right through the animal at 200,000 rpm.

Personally (and this is just me), if I were shooting a .257 Weatherby, I'd start with a TSX and would try other bullets only if that didn't give good accuracy.
