Not a good experience at galt sportsmen club

So it runs throught the club I belive executives, directors and members of this club need a new look on attitude. Galt if I remember right is 200 acres give or take. All auto shooters and very expensive to run. No new ppl will equal no $ to pay bills. Beautiful course, but a shame that it's run by a bunch of donkeys.

I'm a member at Galt, and the clays cashier has always been a #### whenever I went to shoot.

It's unfortunate, but not uncommon for clubs to have people on the payroll so they have a job, but are useless.

Send an email to info@galtsportsmensclub dot com and share your experience. There's no reason for guests to be treated that way, as that is how the section actually generates revenue.
 
I shoot at galt all the time as a non-member. I have never had anyone be rude to me or be bullied. It's a beautiful club but be prepared to pay for it. I shoot sporting clay at otter vally all the time, great guys and great club, just wish it was a little closer.

what do you mean by be prepared for it? Is membership expensive there? It doesn't say on their site. I messaged the galt email and the member messaged me back and asked me to visit the club on wednesday or saturday.
 
I joined at Galt this spring and have had a great experience so far. The lady who works behind the desk was very helpful, and 99% of the members I have met there have been very helpful with me (I am a new shooter).

Only bad experience was with a guy who got pissed off when I was attempting to shoot skeet without a clipboard for that field. This was my mistake and I just apologized and went and got the clipboard.

I think the biggest problem for me was not introducing myself to people, after I started saying hi to everyone and asking to shoot with new people every week, I met a bunch of great shooters and learned a lot. Could be that the person behind the desk was having a bad day...Galt has been great for me so far.

Yea if you shoot at galt as a non-member it's 8 dollars a round for trap, skeet or 5-stand. Memberships for clays are 335 dollars a year and if you want one you better get it at the end of sept because they will not pro-rate your membership. Also I heard if you join at the end of this sept they are doing 15 month memberships for there usuall price for 12.
 
There are no excuses for being treated poorly that is for sure. Perhaps it was an off day? Or maybe non-members are treated differently, I can't say since I've only shot there as a member.
I started shooting clays out at Galt about a year ago, knew nothing about skeet, trap, or sporting clays, and knew no one out there. The ol' timers can seem a bit "crusty" there in the clubhouse and the cashier was still asking me if I was a member after 2 months of shooting skeet most Wednesdays :) but they have always been polite and respectful to me.
I hope that others don't read this thread and write off Galt entirely. Yes, I'd say they could be friendlier and more welcoming to clay shooters but I'd suggest people give them a chance and get to know them a bit and you might be pleasantly surprised.
 
I myself do want to go back and give it a try again, but my friends don't. They look at it like a store. If someone who is representing a buisness is rude or makes a customer feel as if they're unwanted then that person may never return. Personally I want to go back. I love the course and found it to be a real challange. I just hope when I do the atmosphere is different then my first experiance.

I hope you are going on the correct day of the week and at the correct time to make an enquiry about membership. They have designated 1 person to answer prospective members questions and no one else in the clubhouse will if she is not present. At least that was my experience.

I had to go 3 times in order to get a membership application - first time I was told that she was there, but was shooting but to wait and she would be right there. I waited for well over an hour, then had to leave. Members and employees in the club house refused to bring me over to the pistol range to get a membership application (I was told that is where this lady was shooting). Next visit she wasn't there. Finally got the information and decided that by the time I pay the high membership, go through their lengthy probationary process it would not be worth it.

Bear in mind that you have to attend quite a number of shoots where you have to be supervised. You must go through their probationary program regardless of your experience shooting or references that you might have from anyone, including Galt members.

I understand why they have the policies and procedures that they do at Galt but it is very arduous for new and prospective members. I would have liked to have joined what is probably the best shotgun club in the province, but it was not worth it for me.

Wednesday evenings and all day Sunday, Marie is there to answer questions and provide membership applications. I'd be very surprised if Marie was shooting on a Wednesday evening or Sunday but I can understand members not wanting to take you over to the handgun range to see her about a membership form - if she was over there shooting, she wouldn't have any forms anyways!:D

The probationary period and required "shoots" that you mentioned are for handgun and rifle, not shotgun - no reason why you can't show up, sign up, pay your money and shoot clays all in the same night!

You're right the guy at the front counter needs lessons in how to communicate with the human race. His attitude is terrible.

You would think that someone who was the "first contact person" in an organization would be better prepared to welcome new potential members and make sure that shooting sports grow.

Lord nows we need all the support we can get to keep clubs active and open.

If you're near the Oshawa Gun Club there is a great lady there who will treat you with respect, arrange a shooting partner and make sure you have a good time.

Sounds like Galt is pretty good with the exception of the guy guy with an attitude problem, but that's ok, I deal with it all the time. The gun stores around toronto are very biased and ignore me all the time when I wanted some help. Either cause I'm young and/or asian, they decided not to ask me if I needed help when I'm obviously looking for something. I won't get into that though.

At Galt you pay a flat membership rate and then you pay an additional fee for each "section" you want to join. $25 for clays, $40 for fishing, $45 for handgun and so on. It sounds complex but it is a good way to keep each section controlling at least part of the money and from what I have gathered leads to less interference between sections so that you don't have shotgunners telling the handgun guys and gals how to do things and vice versa.

Hey northern I have been to many gun stores and have gotten that type of attitude too. I think it's because some gun dealer think they're diamond dealers and forget that they rely on customers to keep them in buisness. I hope this is the case and has nothing to do with you being Asian. Look for a good gun dealer they're out there. I deal with triggers and bows in buford,on and they r great. But that may be a liitle to far from gta for you. Happy shooting
 
Had a great experience at Galt my first time out, Marie set me up with one of the guys on the board of directors for trap and skeet (Paul) and he could not have been nicer. Paul took me out for my first two rounds of trap ever and was totally cool. He took me for a killer tour of all the shotgun areas and answered every question I could throw at him. Guy behind the cash did seem a bit stuffy but I didn't get much of a chance to talk to him either. If you guys are looking for a membership then the end of September is the time to buy as the membership is not prorated as was stated earlier. Galt is so close to my house that it seems like a stupid easy choice for membership for my self. Just have to jump through the hoops for handgun and rifle.

I'm a member at Galts and it did take me a couple trips to become "comfortable"
Marie will help you out with whatever you need. Facility wise it can't be beat for shotgunning, and as mentioned before, probably the best in the province, and within reasonable driving distance to the GTA. I also joined the rifle section earlier this spring, but oddly have not been since as fishing and other outdoor activities have been taking up most of the shooting days.
As for the gent behind the counter, true I too was constantly asked if I was a member several months after joining, I think he is just that way. Could be an age thing but he does seem to have better days than others. Fellow members I have met have been very helpful to both me and my son.

Every club has its elitists...At my clubs most recent meeting, some old fudds wanted to ban rapid fire from any gun (handgun, rifle, shotgun...even .22's), but our kickass president shot it down and told the grumpy old bastards that if they didn't like rapid fire, come to the range during the week while everyone else is working...haha.

My range holds weekly sporting clays on sundays...I've seen people show up with their great grandpa's single shot and just shoot singles all day. Nobody judges, most will offer up their gun for others to try, and everyone has a beer together after. I wouldn't be a member of any club that didn't offer a friendly welcoming atmosphere.
 
This is a common experience... Been there twice and treated very poorly on both occasions...
Mgt was ignorant,rude, and seemed extremely annoyed for no apparent reason. Definately my last trip there.
