Hey guys,

A buddy of mine just got his hands on a Weatherby Centurion-II .12g Semi-Auto shotgun and it will not cycle light/trap loads. He was just wondering if this is a common problem with this gun. I'm pretty sure that it's just a problem with the quality of the shells as with most semi-autos but I just wanted to see if anyone else is having an issue with this gun.

Cheers,
Mitch

Is it a 3" chambered gun by chance? If so, it likely never did and never will cycle any load with less than a 3 1/4 dram equivalent rating. Even the 2 3/4" guns have a hard time with anything less than 3dr. eq. loads. These older semi auto guns don't have very effecient gas compensating systems and struggle with the lighter target/promotional loads. If it's only going to be used for clays or upland game he can get a gunsmith to drill the gas ports in the barrel to a larger size. This will help with light load reliability but a steady diet of heavy loads will be very hard on the action and parts will break faster than they should...and parts are very hard to find for those old Nikko manufactured guns!

I remember my dad had an older beretta that was 3" and wouldn't cycle target loads. It was made as a hunting gun not a target gun.

My 1100 magnum won't cycle 2 3/4" shells. The regular 1100 has an extra gas port in the barrel to allow more gas to cycle the action. Also I think there might be a lighter spring as well
