I'll try here first as you guys know much more about Canadian Milsurp:

On a recent trip through the Maritimes I picked a vintage 1940 production Winchester 94 #1227###, in 30-30 with London Proof House markings and additional " NOT MADE IN ENGLAND" stampings, a rack number - # 29, a second engraved serial number on the receiver.

Also, twenty number "1"s are stamped into the butt stock denoting "kills." The rifle has a Lyman # 2 tang sight and a Marbles rear sight, and generally well preserved with existing holes from military style slings.

Any suggestions for tracking the history of this gun is appreciated. I'm also trying to get an idea of how many of these firearms came back from the "Lend Lease" program and ballpark the value of this firearm.

Cheers!

Sounds like one of the many civilian firearms donated in N.America and shipped to U.K. early in the war to be issued to the Home Guard. Lend Lease weapons were stamped U.S. Property because they remained the property of the U.S. government. The privately donated ones wouldn't necessarily have been under Lend Lease terms so that may have produced no records on their eventual disposal.

The gifted or donated small arms from the American public under the auspice of the American Committee for Defense of British Homes were all issued to the British Home Guard.

They did not see any service overseas in Europe.
