Not sure if this post belongs here, but you guys should be the experts. What kind of grouping should I expect with my Remington 597 @ 100 metres?
Any idea about how often if should be hitting bullseye?

anything under a foot would make me happy

:agree:
Try searching in the rim fire forum. The quick answer is that Remington has had some problems as of late and depending on what model you have (TVP is the bad one I think) you may not be to happy. If it is a fairly new one I think Remington has been replacing them.

P.M. Me if you need some help working the search function. It can be a little temperamental for new guys. I know it was for me:redface:.

Dude, what are you talking about? A foot would make you happy?

I am not usually one to post groups, but I happen to have these saved.
They were shot by a new shooter, with a box stock 597 at 100m. The shots on black were highlighted.

I'm not a percision guy but more details will help. What kind of sights are you using and are you reloading or shooting factory? Is your stock bedded shooting off of sandbags or a rest. I didn't google that rifle as there is too little info as of just yet to say anymore then

Get out try it and see what happens, make changes and try again.

Good luck

adding: hey it's a 22 n/m the reloading

I'm not familiar with the Rem 597, but you should be getting at least MOA (minute of angle, or 1 inch per 100 yards) groups with any decent rifle. A good rifle will get you sub MOA.

Any minute now someone should chime in "I can get 1/2 inch groups all day long with my 10/22".

This should be moved to the rim fire forum...

If you can get 2 inch groups with a semi auto .22LR and cheap ammo you are doing very well.

loaded magazines or ammunition .If the latter could you please advise us of how you reload 22 Rimfire Ammunition :pLOL

so it sounds like I am doing ok then. Most shots are with in an inch on avg., the odd one a little out.

Run the empties in the tumbler, with very fine media (to clear rim of spent primer junk). Reprime using homemade priming solution, a little krazy glue and a homemade tool to spin the case (to get it all into the outside of the rim). Size case, for powder 1.2 gr Unique, 40gr .223 cal round nose bullet, heel crimp. So long as the firing pin doesn't ever hit the same place twice, you'll get 4 or 5 firings per case. Some fools just leave the cases lying around, haha, their loss.

I can't even believe it when I hear some people are gullible enough to pay upwards of 4 or 5 cents per round of 22lr, when reloading is as easy as this.

lol.

With my 10/22T I prefer to shoot 100 round groups. Usually get about a 2-4" group or one big mofo hole. Kinda like when I used to go to Klondike days here and shoot out the red star with the full auto pellet gun many years ago lol. My savage bolt is pretty much the same way, just takes longer.

My Anschutz Model 54 target rifle shoots 3/8" 10-shot groups at 50m, using a particular batch of Eley Tenex (fired in an indoor 50m test range, with the action removed from the stock and clamped in a special vise - this was an ammo testing setup).

I've tried shooting it a few times at 100 (off a bench, with a 15X scope), and got groups that were several inches high. They didn't seem worth measuring accurately, they were 3+ inches in size - i.e. no-way, no-how anywhere near 1MOA, in fact, not even near 2 MOA. (FWIW using that scope on a centrefire target rifle, I can reliably shoot _well_ under 1 MOA).

So while I'm sure that some people manage to actually get 1 MOA from their .22s at 100, I admit to finding that feat pretty darn impressive.
