not sure about buying skeet gun

hi to all I am of cource new to all I contacted a guy who has a 1950 s ethica 12 guage pump skeet gun for sale
with a 29 inch barrel and I don't know what it is worth he is asking 200 dollars for it and says its in great shape and is selling because of downsizing his collection any comments or help on this matter would be great

Hi and welcome to GGN. Personally i find the ethica doesn't cycle light loads very well with past experience, but others on here will have more knowledge on it. a picture would be better help out as well. Just curious, why an ethica?

hi, that's not really a typical skeet gun, however it will work in a pinch, I am fairly new to trap shooting and don't shoot skeet but I do know if you are going to get into skeet an o/u seems to be the preferred choice among the better shooters, because I don't shoot skeet and only trap as well as being new to it, I simply use a Baikal single shot 12 guage, at my range for trap you may only load one at a time so the Baikal has given me a chance to simply try this sport out with no investment, I do enjoy it so I am going to get a better gun soon, skeet is different you need to have 2 loaded at once so naturally a single wont work, my suggestion if you are new to it and want a flexible gun to use later if skeet don't work out, buy an 870. it will get you skeet shooting, trap shooting and any other shot gunning you care to do along with a very flexible platform, hope this helps, its just my 2 cents

If you go to a trap or skeet match 90% of the shotguns there are browning citori over unders. Theres a reason why.

I prefer 20ga for trap and skeet, lighter, and the recoil is extremely manageable you never develop a flinch.

Actually, the heavier 12g with the same weight of target load will have less recoil, not to mention bulk 12g shells are cheaper to purchase than 20g.

Doubles might be challenging with a pump. For a bit more money, you might look at a used Remington 11-87 instead.

I agree, I buy my target loads for about 6 bucks a box, and I personally find shooting trap the recoil is really not a factor, you just get focused a little and barely notice it, I am 6ft 210 so that may be a factor if your smallish, once you get into the sport and you are shooting 50-100 12 guage rds an outing recoil seems to vanish somewhat.
