Well I just got back from the Nass hunting! It was a good weekend I saw 52 black and 1 grizzly bear this weekend. It was a great time all in all.
So where to start!
This is my truck loaded with my ATV we are about 20-30km out side of terrace just seeing if all out tie downs are still tight.
Richards truck is the next pic then Dave's!
Then here is just a pic of the lake.
here is the first bear pic of the trip we had saw 5 up to this point.
Our little camp!
Here is Dave's ATV
And now its my truck with the bed tent! Its kinda cool!
the first day of hunting the ATV is all ready to go!
2nd bear pic this of a sow and cub. Its a little small...
Here is the bobcat that i saw every morning and got lots of pics of her and here are the best!
Now the bear and the story.... First of all I'm pissed off at my self for what happened, I let nerves get the better of me... so here we go.
I had seen about 45 bears up to this point and passed up them all. There was actually only about 10 i could have shot.
So anyways I was driving my ATV back to camp for lunch. I had a very good morning hunt seen lots of bears and got really close to a few that were just too small for me so i let them walk. I was about 2km from camp (Dragon lake) when i look down a side road and see a huge black mass as I pass buy! (my bike only has the foot break so it is a pain to stop)
I jump off the bike and load my rifle. This is when my nerves start going because for some strange reason my bolt uncocked its self when the action was open. So i could not put a shell in the camber... I removed this bolt and manually re #### it. I run back to the spot where i had seen the bear and to my surprise he was still there just munching away on grass (he was at 50 feet)
my first mistake was trying to do a standing shot (I SUCK AT EM AT ANY TIME) So i line up on him and let a 200 grain Nosler Partition go. He goes down but is up in a blink of an eye. He the roars that could have chilled anything to the bone. Mean wile I (at light speed) rack the bolt and put another shell in the camber. The big basterd charges full out!
So more or less I have just enough time to raze my rifle to my shoulder and fire. The bear goes down and flips on its back and starts to chew on its hind leg. I jack another round into the chamber and fire the bear stiffens up and flips over and starts to claw to wards me. I have to re-load i only had 3 rounds so I grab my new winchester elite xp3 180 gr round and fire. This was the finishing shot as i hit him in the head. Now here are the pics!
When we get back to camp and skin him out we find out what happened why he didn't go down on the first shot... on the first shot i must have flinched and shot I'm low front leg just zipping the chest so it did little to no damage just pissed the F%ck out of him. second shot was when he was charging I must have shot when he charged because I more or less blew its back leg off... third shot was through the hart lungs and spine and the last one was through the head....
What pisses me off and also scars the $h!t out of me is, what would have happened if i missed that second shot.... I probably would not be typing this right now.... it was a very humbling experience....
but anyways I'm ok and the bears not...
the size live was 6'8 400+lbs skinned out he was over 7'
This bed is 7' and a bit wide and the bear is hanging over each end skinned.
here is the paw and I have large hands just for reference.
Now here is the pic of the xp3 bullet I recoverd from his head....
Is it normal for them to come apart like that?
Anyway that was my weekend. It was one hell of an experience. And thanks for reading!
