I understand about the mags being legal as long as it is stamped pistol mag

I understand it is legal to have mags coupled to each other

my question is what happens when you remove the bottom plate to add the coupler and it is no longer marked as a pistol mag? what is the legality in that situation?

would the mag not technically still be designed for an AR pistol even without the floorplate marking it as such?

Just because the mag had a pistol mag baseplate does not a LAR mag make. I could put one of my LAR takeoffs and put it on my 5 rnd standard rifle mag, but that doesnt allow me to put 10 in it.

The LAR mags we bought for my wife's AR are marked on the side of the magazines.

We bought a pair of mag couplers and I hooked them up. She took one look and said - "Stupid idea!". I put them on individual mags and she liked the way they dropped like stones when she hit the mag release, like my 1911 mags with welded on base weights. She also flashed on using the heavy base to rest the mag on anything handy. Could only be better if the mag bodies were longer.

When I was serving, my issue weapon was a Sterling SMG. We played with taping mags together and it never seemed to be practical. It made the gun difficult to handle, added weight and the open end of the mags was prone to getting crammed with dirt. Murphy's Law 101 - what can happen WILL happen.

She may change her mind eventually, but for now, it stands. I ain't gonna argue with a wife that enjoys shooting as much as I do.

Thanks! Checked it out and it looks like the answer to the problem.

I'll be ordering some for my wife's LAR mags and my own Mini 14 mags, especially the flush fit factory 5 rd mags.

Never thought I'd be buying accessories done on a 3D plastic replicator!
