Not the usual 10/22 Bolt release Question

I know most people ask about making the bolt release automatic.

Has anyone just removed the bolt release and not dealt with that at all? Not looking for commentary. Just curiosity on whether anyone has.
 
I believe the bolt release is also the bolt catch, so without that you'd have no way of locking back the bolt, which if nothing else is important for safe handling. If you shoot at any kind of range you need the ability to show clear during a ceasefire.

You could probably get a chamber flag for that purpose.

20 or more years ago. Mine went away and hasn't been missed.

Found it to be a PITA as I was occasionally hitting it while shooting, and locking the bolt open, and it was fiddly and annoying to release. Pre internet and pre auto release mod info.

So far I haven't noticed it being any less safe. It is certainly less annoying.
