Hello,
I may be making a work-related move to the Halifax area and am wondering what the deer hunting prospects are there. I now live in NB and our deer herd is not huge, but is on the upswing due to mild winters. Our bucks can be in the 140 class and occasionally considerably larger, with a mature buck dressing over 200 lbs. What sort of shape is the NS deer herd in and how do they compare body and antler-wise, with NB bucks? Also, what is land access like? Am I going to have to buy or lease a hunting spot, or is there good public and/or freehold land which can be accessed? Here in NB we have a good supply of Crown and freehold forest land which has generally has public access, as well as decent access to private land. Private land access often depends on who you know, and initially I won't know anyone
Finally, What sort of hunting pressure is there in NS? In NB, particularly in the areas of the Province where deer numbers are strong, there is heavy hunting pressure.
Thanks so much for your feedback
