Hi,

I live in Halifax area and I'm wondering if someone could tell me a little bit about the following ranges and maybe rank them.

sibbley road
chester grant
Stanley
georgefield

they are all approximately an hour from where I live so if anyone could shed any light on them I would appreciate it. I assume they're all 100 meters/yards? do they all have benches? sand bags? do people show up without booking time and interrupt you? are their wannabe RO's around annoying you? do they have framed for paper? anything else I should know?

Any info appreciated as the nova scotia government doesn't seem to post any information. :)

I go to the stanley range almost once a week. Its about 15 minutes from my house. All there is there is two benches ( one is setup for left or right handed people the other is just like a sturdy 1 sided picnic table) and then around 100m down range there is a big pile of dirt. Some times there is a wooden back stop (4x8 sheet of plywood or a 2x4 frame) sometimes there nothing down at the 100m location. Most times there is something you can hang a target on though.

I like the range, its out of the way, you will be the only person there, its not very busy, but they just changed the rules a few months ago to " no handguns and no magnums" not sure what they mean by no magnums,

If you want to private message me with your e=mail address, I'll send you extracts from my book: Where To Shoot In Nova Scotia. I haven't updated it since 2012 but there might be a little more info in there for you.

The DNR ranges vary a lot from range to range. Some have been 'adopted' by local shooters or local clubs and they help maintain and support the range. Some have pretty basic infrastructure, useful for very casual shooting or the annual hunter sight in rush in the fall.

I haven't shot at a DNR range in years but they are a great option for someone who doesn't want to belong to a club. If you're shooting restricted firearms though, you'll probably end up at a club as not all the DNR ranges allow restricteds.

Best of luck.
