Just thought I would add this pic of the moose my buddy got while we were hunting in the Highlands. He was a lucky bugger to get drawn for a tag this year. He shot him with my Marlin 45-70 guide gun at 25 yards after I called him out. The gun was loaded with my 350gr cast from my saeco mold. I hope to get drawn next year.

Nice Bull. I paid into the draw religiously for 15 years along with 3 other hunting buddies. After none of us ever getting drawn we all finally gave it up. Did you have a bunch of trouble moving it out?

VERY NICE...I dint think they had BIGGER Moose out East.:D

By the way....why would you use such a large bore firearm?

Most folks on here shoot them with .22's or other small caliber Deer cartridges.:runaway:

The moose in the highlands were transplanted from Alberta after they were shot out. There's been bulls shot over the 1000lbs mark, one we got should be somewhere around 900lbs. The Marlin guide gun was in it's place where we were hunting. It took us 6 hours to get him out buy quartering him, Black Spruce Bog is a wonderful thing to try to get things out of.

I agree with you 100%...I have .444 Marlin that used to be my drop them in their tracks rifle. Nothing hits with authority like a big bore +300gr bullet.

Where was hit and how much meat damage if any?

The fun ends after the shot.....:D

There was little to no meat lose. That bugger did eat three of those big slugs. Two behind the shoulder and one through the head. We did recover one of the slugs from behind the front shoulder. It was found under the blade on the off side shoulder. I have a pic of it I'm adding, recovered weight was 182grs. I never seen an animal so tough, no lungs, busted shoulder and left side of his head was jello. When we got the four quarters to the butcher we weighed them. Four quarters dressed was 607 lbs.

I WISH I had the time/money/resources to hunt moose in CB, as it stands right now I can't even get a freezer into my apartment big enough for a single deer.

I've heard many people say that unlike deer, you could practically hit a moose with a stick on the head and it'd go down. I guess you guys proved highland moose to be a bit more resilient eh?

I was hiking in one of the Cabot trail park trails and there was moose all over the place, I walked up to a big bull and he didnt' have a care in the world.....I think he was used to all the tourists.

I been putting in for near 20 years now and not got drawn. My buddy in the picture got drawn and I think he might have put his name in three times. I will get lucky one of these days my self.
