November/December Purchases

Honestly, even if it is in a book, I do not think the notch is original since it does not have the proper proof mark in the notch.

That pic isn't of this rifle, it's something I found on the net to show the SNT vs SVT designation. JP- do you have a pic of the proper proof mark to be found in the notch?

I understood that the photo came from a book and not your rifle. The people I know who have original rifles with all three types of notches are reluctant to post photos of the proof marks for fear of aiding Fakers in their work. The people in Ukraine are very actively turning out fakes, they have produced many fake Soviet scopes and mounts and many fake SS markings on the RC K98 (many of those are been peddled by Mitchell Mausers in the USA).

SNT 40 sniper, made by Tula in 1941. Rifle is a refurb, perfect bore, no German laser etched s/n's.

Real sniper rifle, real Tokarev scope, repro mount. Mount fits very snugly but slid on smoothly, very nicely machined. Sling isn't right.

The Robert Jensen name in the photo you posted made my ears perk up like a German Sheppards. Sure, his K98 collection is in BBOTW, many of them fantasy, faked and humped pieces, and some legit, but the amount of fake and humped rifles that are being sold out of his collection by Jim Oxley on Gunbroker, Auction Arms, etc are worth noting. It may be in a book but don't let that fool you.

Agreed. Robert Jensen's collection was full of less than genuine examples of many rare guns.

I would also argue that text is wrong as well. The SVT40 sniper was, by all accounts, a failure. The rifle proved much more effective as an infantry battle rifle once troops were properly trained in its care and maintenance.

Germans LOVED capturing these guns.

Finally got the Webley .38 Mk.IV I bought at the Brandon show. Very nice condition, War Finish and British army proofed.
