--November Purchases--

Thanks to someone pointing out one of the quirks of US gun laws; I am now the proud owner of two Finnish m39's:

I've always liked the look of the m39's with their semi-pistol grip stock, so I'm chuffed. Hopefully I'll get a chance to take them to the range this weekend.

I just received a folding bayonet for my Italian fucile corto 91/38.
THey're supposed to remain permanently affixed in the folded position, and unfolded when going into action. A lot of guys have these rifles but I haven't seen a lot of bayonets floating around. If you have one of these rifles you'll notice the slot cut in the forestock to accomodate the folded blade:

It really seems to add weight to the rifle though. I'm anxious to fire it while attached to see how differently it groups.

Also, though purchased a couple of months ago I finally got a pair of spreaders to re-attach the sight hood (I should have anticipated I'd have trouble when it took all my might to pry the bloody thing off) and snapped a few pics of my latese K98k. My love-affari with Gustloff Werke is perpetuated with this matching bcd 4 (the bolt is mismatched but matches itself and i of the same letter block):

I hope to take some better pics of both once I get a bit of free time.

Fairly rare from what I've read. They also made a more common fixed blade version which is detached and carried on the belt like most bayonets.

Nope, it's my matching original, the first milsurp rifle I actually bought after being gifted a couple of Lee-Enfields.

I bet you were wondering how I dulled down the shine eh ;)

Howdy Mate, nice twins...or half brother sister.. if you ever think of giving one up for adoption let me know...:D

Picked up a very nice, and very rare, Mannlicher M.88-95 with Italian AOI cartouche from board member eos. Pictured with the Mannlicher M.95-30 I've had for years.

A 'special' pair of spreaders??

I have always used a pair of needle nose pliers....except ya force the pliers 'open' to spread the hood...super easy and effective

I think that people have been buying, but they are getting more scarce everyday. Another thing, like it or not we only make up less than 10% of the gun owners. Most clubs don't even have milsurp shoots. Most people that have them, hold onto them for a long time.
Another problem, unless you're shooting 308, 30-06, 7x57, 8x57, 6.5x55,7.62x39 or 303 Brit, it's darn tough to find factory ammunition.
Unless you've managed to store away a good supply of surplus 7.62x54R or 7.5x55 swiss etc, you're basicly out of luck unless you handload, and those supplies can be very difficult to find, unless your favorite store has someone that's willing to stock or order the components.
I've noticed the price of Mosins comeing down since the surplus ammunition has dried up as well. Just not a bunch of serious buffs out there anymore, mostly people looking for a cheap shooting session in the gravel pit. bearhunter

I haven't stopped buying :) I've just been too busy to always post to the "acquisition" threads. Have picked up some dandy stuff this month though... ;)

Another side of the coin is that November is ALWAYS a slow month due to all the guys gone hunting. Then Winter gets less active in general every year as many won;t brave the cold temps.

That being said, we should have a CGN EOHC gathering for some general non-competition shooting fun. Last time we did a Winter event, it was January (three years ago now?). It was like minus 20!

ive been buying like its going out of style. But most of my posts have been over on milsurp.com. For reasons unknown.

Most recently purchased a port k98k. Today in the mail I received 10 k98k cleaning rods, cause you can never have too many, and a gas piston by apfeltor gunsmiths in the US for my g43 shooter, should make a huge improvement!

I tried that as well, but the hood kept slipping out of place making the pliers useless. Either you've got much better pliers than I do, or I've got much girlier hands than you do ;)

M24/47 with Zrak mounts and a Weaver K3-1 scope. When I got it the cosmo had been removed from the working parts and shot. There's even still cosmo on the rear sight!

Lol, I bet everytime you fire it and it heats up you'll see cosmolene bleeding from a new and exciting place ;)

As for the scope, not a bad choice, my old man took a nice spike-horn this year with the same scope mounted on a 55year old rem 740.

Girly girly GIRLY!!:)

Its just a small set of needle noses...maybe you have a genuine Aryan sight hood requiring Roman-Gothic strength...

I'd almost believe this, nothing short of proper spreaders offered any leverage on this, the hood is stiff as hell. I've felt a repro that'd easily stretch under the force of pliers, but this bcd hood is one stiff mother.
