I just picked up a brand new 13" noveske keymod rail for my AR platform and I was wondering if anyone knows if it is 100% necessary to use the anti-rotation pin included in the kit to install the rail? Does anyone have any experience with not using it? Any issue with the rail rotating or coming loose? I would honestly prefer not to have my upper receiver drilled in order to use the set pin.

Well, if you don't want to use a pin, you can use a small picatinny rail accessory (say a sling mount) to bridge between the upper and rail...

With that said, a lot of guys have rails that don't use anti-rotation pieces and have never had a problem. If you properly torque the barrel nut down, you shouldn't have it come loose with any normal amount of force you can put onto it!

I'll be taking my AR to my local gunsmith for installation anyway so if I don't have to drill it I won't, but if its highly recommended then I guess I would reluctantly consider it. I'm not a big fan of any permanent modifications on my firearms.
