Novice IDPA shooter

I'm not up on the IDPA rules, but when I ran a couple IDPA matches this year, I was told I was fine with starting my DA/SA gun, hammer down, safety OFF. No need for a safety when starting DA.

Your heavy DA pull can be tuned lower. I shoot IPSC a fair amount with my DA/SA gun. Do lots of DA dryfire, and you'll get used to the heavy DA pull over time.

Correct me if I'm wrong guys but can he not start hammer cocked, safety on (like a 1911) and be ESP?

Well he can but the gun won't do it I am afraid. The 92A1 has a decocker/safety that fully lowers the hammer. If he truly had a gun with a safety like a CZ for example he could start with the safety on and hammer back for ESP.

Take Care

I have a G41.
I love it, shoots well. Very accurate gun.
But it is really not being design to be use in action shooting game.......
End up become the PPC gun maybe, if I change the sights.
It is good for "service".........

Just bumping this one as there's some good info in here, and I'm hoping to try an IDPA match this year. I think I have everything (minus the ability to efficiently put rounds on target, lol). Got my M&P9, Solcan concealment holster, 2 mag carrier, 3 magazines, and a Wilderness Instructors Belt. Anything else I'm missing? Probably another magazine or 2 wouldn't hurt, but I think I'm ready? When's the next match/how/where do I sign up?

Check on the cfgpa caleder, or fraservalleytacticalshooters .com or the facebook page. The Fb page will have dates for practce days, normally 1-2 of those per month. New shooters are welcome to those.

Cheers Jay

Like Ironman said, check the Fraser Valley Tactical Shooters website for upcoming matches, we run the Chilliwack matches on the first Sunday of every month, unfortunatly the February match is sold out already. Mission will be joining us this year with IDPA events so even more opportunities to try it out Lexthedestroyer!!
Ironman has also been running practices fairly regularly so check the FVTS Facebook page for info on those :)

Edgy: what is the non-shooting visitor policy for an IDPA match? Can this fella come watch on Feb 3 to see what it's all about?

Oh, I've had it. The guy's like a crack dealer, "first one's free".

Send Ironman a PM. I have to drop out of this Sunday’s match due to family commitments. Get your gear ready. You’ll need 3 mags and a “ topper” mag for the 11th round ( or just handload one).
Bring $30 match fee and around 160rds of ammo. Max 18x8 stages is 144 but that rarely happens.

Get there before 8am and ask for edgy or Ironman (Jay). If there is no waiting list, you may get to shoot! They’ll give you the rules and introduce you to the MD. Both edgy and Jay are SOs. Try and squad with one of their groups. I guarantee you’ll have a blast! I’m not sure how edgy makes money on his corn! He gives so much away!!

Jimbo will likely squad with either edgy or ironman also. He is an IPSC shooter with a CZ so we don’t talk to him much. He also usually finishes very high and has this annoying dance when he kicks butt.
