Novice Shooter - IPSC

If you're fixated on the 1911 remember that 9mm is still a viable option. I've got an STI Trojan in 9 that I use for Classic. It's a dream to shoot and as long as I shoot mostly A's the major/minor thing doesn't bother me.

Yes I am pretty fixated on the 1911 :). I think I will go the 9mm route. Will eye the EE. In the mean time will be looking at either SAMs or a STI Spartan V. :).

Don't forget there is this club in the valley that does regular skills and drills practice nights eh

There's a group run out of the Abbotsford range by a fellow with really cool teeth :) If it wasn't so far away for me, I'd definitely be there on Friday nights and maybe Saturdays too. Here's a link to more info http://activeshooter.ca/?p=734. I haven't been to the practice nights yet at the PCDHFC, I hear they run once a month or so. The folks I've met down at the range so far are great.

Hey Shooterready,

Thanks for responding in this thread.

According to the info you have on your website you'd be able to inform the originator of this thread what 1911 setup it good to use in your area. I think especially with regards to brand and caliber would add value to this discussion.

Bummer that you lost a shooter.

Oh I'm still shooting a 1911 lol, you would have to pry that out of my cold dead hands. I am moving to major though :D I'm at most skills and drills and happy to chat 1911s and IPSC

still got the spartan in 9mm that got me to M though.

Congrats on shooting major!!!! So much to learn. Always wanted to get into competitive / action shooting. Pew pew.

Going to save up for the Spartan V 9mm. Looking forward to it!!!!!!

Thanks so much for all the info. Keep it coming :).

Haha Thanks Stoney.

@VanMan : Looking forward to meet you as well!

Dang!

Won't be able to travel for events anytime soon but local vents will be fun :)
I'd love to do steel challenge as well.

Reading this brought me back to my first IPSC exposure...I swallowed the hook and didn't spit it out until I had to modify my life for work.

1977.

Don't forget you are getting into this IPSC stuff to have fun...

oh - forgot to mention Murray Gardner http://www.mdgardner.com/index.html . He's located in GVRD and you can get most of your IPSC gear from him if you need. Would have saved me a bunch delivery charges getting stuff from him over ordering on-line. Just picked some more stuff up from him. Slowly easing in to the reloading world ....

Oh wicked!

Anyone have suggestions about collection brass at a range / catching your own brass?

I only found out about these green fish nets after taking my Range Users Course at PCDFHC. This was on Range 6. There wasn't one on Range 5, and not sure about Range 4 yet. Sure does make picking up your brass a lot easier. btw - in the bottom pic you will see what an average practice session is like for me - hence the need for getting into reloading, even for 9mm.

btw - I saw Murray has brass pickup mats on his website. They are only only ~5' x 7' though. May be handy for when I actually start practicing moving between stations. I haven't got that far yet lol

Nice pistol!

Lol Stone! I was hoping no one would suggest that :p.
I figured some sort of netting or what not would work haha.

Lookg at Murray's page. Very sweet. Noticed he has bullets as well..
