Novice Shooter - IPSC

So I'm a tech geek and I love training tools. JUst quickly browsing through Murray's website...I find myself to be broker in the near future... that Shotmaxx watch is super fantastic. Seems to be quite accurate/senstive even down to the "MILSIM" category of pew pew.

if you are interested in doing some shooting that will improve your skills, without your black badge you can shoot steel matches at TMSA. here is a link to the match information

PM me if you have any more unanswered questions about competitive shooting in the lower mainland.

+ 10 on Steel Challenge matches and practice. IMO they're excellent skill builders. Simple in concept but not as easy as it looks to shoot well. I shoot SC in Texas during the winters and most often use a .22 pistol or carbine. Sometimes I will shoot a 9mm pistol and the .22 Carbine in the same match. The game sharpens the eye and trigger control. Transitions are key and so almost everything is transferable to IPSC and other games.

Steel challenges is also something I want to get into. Probably more so at the start then diving into IPSC. Lots of fun. I've watched many online over the years. I should hit up a local one sometime.

Production requires DA starts or Striker fired. The gun in question must be available in both DA and SAO

The gun IS available in the DA/SA format and that would be the one approved as production. I got this from a review:

Moreover, the new X-Press model is extremely versatile and upgradable. The single-action trigger unit with a 1911 guard on both sides can be replaced with a double-action trigger unit and decocking lever for example, whereby this task is carried out in the SIG SAUER Mastershop or by a qualified gunsmith. According to SIG SAUER, the new DA/SA variant of X-Press has already been approved by the IPSC Production Division as well.

It wasn't that obvious and took a while to find.

^Thanks for the clarification! Looks like I'll be getting a regular p226 then. Or I can still get the Xpress, but would have to compete in another division I guess?

Does that mean most 1911s are not qualified for production league?

The 1911 is a single action pistol (SAO) and like all SAO pistols does not qualify for Production which include only the listed Double Action/Single Action pistols double Action only or Safe Action as in the Glock and others.

That is what I figured. As you said, 1911s are SAO.

Shroker, I just completed my first qualifier that was held at PCDFHC this weekend and had a lot of fun! It`s a great group of people and a really fun event. Was taking my time at each stage to make sure I completed the qualifier with no DQ and ended up with 124 Alphas, 11 Charlies, 2 Deltas, 1 Miss and 1 No-Shoot. Just under 240 seconds total - which was probably three times longer than the fastest times lol.

I`m going to stick with 9mm in production for now, but just got a S&W 625, thought about competing with that in the future - just for something different.

Nice Grand Power. Just a curious question. How many other types of hand guns show up other than the usual CZ75's.

In production out of 65 shooters, I saw a few Glocks, one Walther, and mostly CZ SP01 Shadows. I was running score sheets in the morning work crew so I got to see all of the morning squads. Didn't get to check out too many of the afternoon squads. I actually do have a Shadow too, but the stock X-Calibur D/A trigger pull is better (~8lbs 4oz) than the Shadow at ~11lbs 8ozs). Also, once I wrapped it in grip tape, I can get a really solid hold on the X-Calibur.

Hey VanMan....Where did you find a holster for a Grand Power? I'd like to use my K100 MK7 to take the Black Badge course but I can't find anywhere that even lists a GP holster.....much less one for a lefty, which is what I need..
