Novice who needs help thread

Media in the primer pocket.

Fix for all you Progressive users.

Put a Lee Universal Decapping Die in station #1 to clean out the media before the primer is set.

I have a Hornady LnL AP and it works, don't know how it'll work with other Progressives.

Back to the media thing... so get walnut media and use a bounce sheet to wipe off each casing after its been tumbled?
 
I'm at the priming phase of my first reload, I just found out that my Lee shellholder will not work with my RCBS hand priming tool.

My Speer reloading manual mentions that my RCBS rock chucker has a swinging arm that goes under the shell holder for priming, but doesn't mention how this works? I don't see how I can prime with my rock chucker.

Pull the arm so the Ram is all the way to the top, push the priming arm into the slot in the Ram and seat the primer on the "down" stroke.

Well I just broke it :HR:

I was just trying it out I think I put a large size primer punch through a small sized shellholder and it got nabbed and sheared it in half.

Does anybody know anybody in Canada who stocks RCBS shellholders?
 
No I broke the priming pin that is supposed to seat the primer, it got stuck in the shellholder (too large) and when I tried to remove it the pin snapped.

edit: the reason I asked about shellholders is because I need an RCBS one to work with my RCBS hand primer.
 
You need these kits one of which should have come with your hand priming tool

These work in both rcbs and lee
 
Neither of those kits came with my handprimer, it says on the manual the hand primer accepts the same shellholders as the press does. But my lee shellholder is too big for the hand primer.

I did some poking around online and people say I just need RCBS shellholders?

Really confused where to go from here, I read on another forum some of the Lee hand primer dies don't fit in the RCBS hand primer.
 
But by saying "uses the same shellholders as RCBS press" is it not implying any shellholder will work?

RCBS doesn't even sell shell holders for their priming tool, just regular shell holders...

Where can I find regular RCBS shell holders in Canada?

Where are you located ?.... Almost any gun shop selling RCBS loading tools will have shell holders, WSS for example stock them.
 
Unfortunately I live in the liberal wasteland that is Halifax, our only gun store is a surplus army navy store that only stocks a few firearms and not much else...
 
No offense, but have you googled "guns(or firearms or reloading) halifax". There was few listings on firearmscanada. No idea, never been out to the east coast.

I know it's surprising a city as big as Halifax only has 1 army navy store with a small selection of firearms and ammo, and a tractor store that has an even smaller selection of hunting rifles and shotguns.
 
There seems to be a few listed between Halifax and "area". Again, never been out there.

On another note buy yourself a copy of "The ABC's of Reloading". I bought mine off of amazone.ca for about $25. A must for someone starting out w/o a mentor.
