Anyone have a value? Looked on the website but on the bullet details there is nothing. Federal Premium ammunition has some values but nothing in this bullet. Looked at the packaging, I couldn't find anything either.

If not...any suggestions? BC Brad?

Trying to put some values into Strelok + with the Magnetospeed values from the range today.

Regards
Ron

im shooting there 160 gr outta my 7-08 and 280. how i found there BC is by going to there premium ammo section... stupid its not in there reloading section but meh.. here is the link to a 280 rem 140gr... scout from there if you wanna explore more.

Cheers
Josh

Oh man...I feel stupid...

You are correct. If they posted it in the reloading section it wouldn't be an issue.

Thanks Josh.

Best regards

Ron

Caliber: 7mm-08 Rem

Bullet Style: Trophy Bonded Tip
Muzzle Velocity: 2800
Ballistic Coefficient: 0.43
Package Quantity: 20
Use: Big Game

Work backwards on a ballistic calculator from there published specks, they usely have something like 3000fps at the muzzle, 200yd zero, -30 at 400yds. Did it to worked out a 100yd point for a 1000yd zero. Wasn't far off.

How is it that I have some boxes of 50 of these?

To me this is strange. If I recall correctly 30 cal is wheelhouse for yourself... Norma etc. I can't recall information sharing from you EE with 284 anything but I've been wrong on a few occasions. ;)

We'll see how these perform on game this year. Should be fine for deer. I haven't sectioned one to see how thick the jacket and base is but in my mind's eye I believe these to be the middle between a monolithic and lead. I speculate that the base going towards the ogive is thicker than anything I've used before. It's advertised as bonded, however field results will tell the tale.

I've wanted to try Barnes for some time but truthfully a little skeptical on how they would perform for myself. Based on the hypothesis that the base is indeed quite thick, it would satisfy my need to try mono's.

The coating has got me a little apprehensive. I don't know what it's impact will be regarding barrel life/detriment if any, and if these will somehow bond to the necks of loaded rounds over time. I have learned a valuable lesson using dry lubricant in the necks prior to seating however these sometime stick to the seater die stem in the Forster regardless. Still working that problem out with Forster.

If those boxes are a bother for you and results are positive for our hunting, I may pm you on availability :)

Best regards EE

Thanks for the insight. I haven't plumbed in the velocity numbers and tried any verification.

Lol, Ron. I have several 7mm rifles. A 7mm Rem Mag and 3 - 7x57's [700 Classic, 1893 Mauser and a M70 Featherweight]. I am thinking the 140's will work well in the 7x57 rifles, and possibly will be tough enough to use in the 7 mag as well.
I acquired over 100 of these bullets, so will wring them out and see what they work like. Obviously, I'm not abandoning my 30 cals. [or my 6mms, 257, 6.5, 270, 8mms etc] Dave.

I offer apology...;) I've long since deduced the extensive experience related to a significant collection, and in a small way, was hoping you would share why. This is why I appreciate the wisdom and "to the point" modesty in the posts you provide.

Best regards Dave and thank you.

Ron

P.S. - I'll never arrive at that type of collection. Each rifle is an enigma in itself I know. Here I have two of the same caliber in 2 different chamberings. Cause and effects of changes in the process or components is starting to become predictable or to use a sports term, "the game is slowing down," for me to get to the expected performance faster. Can't imagine more than that to contend with right now. Like having more children at this point in life lol.

Ron. Thank you for the kind words. No apology needed, really. You have a great day! Dave.

On a side note, I've really enjoyed playing with these bullets and the 7-08. 43g varget gets me 2850 and moa. I would think of it more as a partition than a mono. I look forward to deer hunting with them.

I couldn't remember who else was working these up. Same cartridge here of course. Interesting thought of acting more like a partition. I guess both of us can compare notes at the end of season. I'll post the results when all is said and done at the range. I too look forward to the results.

Varget is my go to powder for many good reasons.

In this situation I am trying VV540 due to shared insight (EE ; and others) that bottle to bottle VV powder is very consistent. It's clean, (comparable or better than Varget) producing good groups and velocity, meters really well in the thrower I have, and marginally better in price believe it or not for myself. I realize I may have pigeon holed myself a bit with powder selection, but if all works well, I'll stock up. I have a couple of Kg's now.

Good luck hunting LH!

Dave, Cheers!

RonR I myself have the 160gr loaded up in the 7-08 and 280. I Also have some 165gr Sierra Gamechangers loaded and ready to try this year.

Dad will be using my 97 Rem 700 Classic with a 9 1/4 twist that I have converted to a Factory Detachable mag. Im using IMR4831 in the 280 giving me 2885FPS with the Trophy Bonded tips and H4350 pushing the 165's@ 2700.

I will be using my Custom Rem700 Stainless with a 9 twist Ted Giallard Barrel. Its shooting Both bullets @ 2655FPS with a good dose of IMR4007SSC and both bullets giving me groups well under half an inch.. Both bullets are seated deep so they can feed outta my internal mag. so they have a LOOONg Runway as this gun is built to shoot 175gr bullets seated WAY out.

Tomorrow morning is Opening morning here for Rifle season.. 1 week only so im hoping to see how both these bullets perform and hold up.

Good Luck Hunting and hope to hear your results!!!

Thanks for that Josh. I hope you have had success so far this year!

In case you or anyone else was interested I thought I would post some results.

Managed to get to the range today between commitments, and for not the best day in Saskatoon I am satisfied.

First photo is walking the scope across from right to left for site in. Relatively flat. One factory round to start with for fouling.

This one is of the POI with the magnetospeed attached. Didn't have any expectations here. Elevation seems to be the same. Shifting to the left a half inch.

Not pleased with the SD and ES but it will be close enough for minute of deer. ;) I was anticipating better numbers but "the paper don't lie."

Dad 7mm-08 2018-11-11 - vv540, TBT 140, magnetospeed screen capture.jpg

Recipe using the 140 TBT's - fire formed Lapua cases, VV 540 41.3 gr, F210.

Ladder test in June of this year at 100m to get me in the ballpark for OCW. From those results then used a version of Mystic's testing method at 200m with I believe .2gr increments. Today was sight in and measurement to finish for Strelock plus at 100m.

If anyone's interested, I might be able to find the ladder test and round robin 200m results.

Regards everyone.

Ron

Ron R. Thanks for doing all that work, They do look like a promising bullet. The 160's in my 280 and 7mm-08 shoot well. 4007SSC in the 7-08 and IMR4831 in the 280. I am sorry to say that I am unable to tell you how these bullets performed as it was the 165gr Sierra GameChangers that were in the gun at the time I decided to shoot my deer. What I Can Tell you about those Bullets is... " there are Real GAMECHANGER LOL". I cant say how they performed really as I never did recover any of the bullets. What I can tell you is the 1st shot was the bullet entered just in between his brisket and left shoulder and left a 4" Exit wound just infront of his rear left leg. The bullet travelled almost the full lenth of the deer before exiting. he turned and ran, 2nd shot went in behind the ribs and out the guts again. The Buck traveled 80 yards and piled up. Appon gutting the internals.. 1 lung, and all the other oragns were prettly much mush. The 1st shot was @ 210 yards and the 2nd was around the 260 mark. They left the muzzle @ 2655fps from my 7-08. OVer all from what I could dertermain is the bullet opened up inside the deer delivering pile of energy and then exited..

Now this spring I may be lucky enough to sneak away for a bear hunt with the 280 and have more results with that
