I frequently tell people that my closest and best neighbours are deer, bear and moose.
Last week my dogs treed a bear 20 yds from where I'm sitting right now. This morning I got up and looked out our ensuite bathroom window to see a doe looking at me from the bench above the house about the same 20 yds away. I've seen grouse there before, but not a deer.
My wife went to get her camera and the deer slowly walked away only to reappear for another look before stepping away with her elegant high stepping gait. If I get a doe draw this year, I hope she becomes a regular and brings along her current buck.
This is the same bench where a cow moose and her calf like to bed down. We think she likes the human proximity as a deterrent against wolves.
BTW - that bear I mentioned ambled off towards my neighbour's house where she was working in her garden. She took refuge in a shed while the bear inspected her garden. Finding nothing of interest, her walked down to the lake and swam across the narrow neck of the lake ((250 yds by laser rangefinder), disappearing into the jungle of the Crown land.
It's worth being a red neck hick to see this stuff.
