Now that clubs re open, any clubs with odd restrictions?

Ever since the Ed Burlew opinion that upper limit shotgun bore diameter is determined by the counterbored portion where choke tubes are installed, there has been great indignation on CGN about how all these conventional sporting shotguns are now prohibited.
A club accepts this interpretation, as do many members here, and blocks the use of these apparently prohibited firearms.
The government denies that this bore interpretation is correct, that there is no problem with shotguns with removable choke tubes.
Either the guns are banned or not. Can't have it both ways. Burlew says banned, government says not.
If the club allows these guns, it is accepting the government's interpretation, and that would suggest that the Burlew interpretation is just a red herring.
Is it?

The RCMP have addressed this in that their standard is the industry standard for measuring, which is between chamber and choke and so it does not measure the bore at the muzzle of the choke.

Burlew made an educated guess on the RCMP standard for barrel length measurements, which does not include threaded devices.

On topic, my club is allowing 5 members at a time, self policed, but it's known the executive monitor cameras. We have always encouraged diligent hand washing and are currently looking to source disinfectant wipes.

In door range still closed. Outdoors only 5 shooters , social distancing and no guests. Last one out has to lock the outer gate

Our indoor club in Waterloo Ontario is open for members only starting today. Lots of new rules...but at least they are open. We should be greatful for that.

The risks are indeed low at a Members only club. But one of the clubs I belong to had to remove an non-member attempting clays with a rifle. The handgun point was a stretch, sorry, but clubs not monitoring what firearms can be used is a stretch as well.

Sounds like the error was resolved internally as it should be. I hope the opportunity that presented itself for education and suggestion of what type of SG to use next time was used.

clubs should not monitor what firearms can be used, it's not their job.

I kind of agree, but their CFO approval may be at risk if compliance is lacking.

Bingo. My club has already sent out an e-mail saying the guns banned on May 1 are not to be brought to the range once they reopen. Our range is right on the edge of the big city, and its days are already numbered due to encroaching development. The last thing they want to do is have an premature shutdown because they were willfully allowing their members to use prohibited guns. They have not commented on 12ga shotguns one way or the other, only on the OIC named prohibs.

Statement from my club :
Regretfully, when our range users return this summer (if COVID restrictions are relaxed), obviously none of these firearms will be allowed at our facilities except by authorized agencies who are exempt. Very obviously, this will affect future competitions as well.

They're currently doing construction at my range (CFO got pissy about their backstops despite the fact that they haven't changed in years), so they're not open yet, but they have said they will be looking at things to reduce transmission such as mandatory masks and closing every other shooting bay, and they say they may look into providing barriers between shooting bays and they might even start monitoring health at the door.

Now, as for this idea of shooting clays with a handgun, who hasn't wanted to try knocking some birds out of the sky with a Taurus Judge?!

In my range each member of the club knows all the rules. They know what calibre is certified to shoot in each range.

One of my clubs is pistol only on range and pistol/rifle the other.

My other club has 10 ranges. Each range is specified for rifle, rimfire, pistol, action, rifle/pistol, etc.

With regards to restricted, prohib, non restricted the club cannot monitor as nobody knows the FRT by heart. Its up to the member themself.

Why would a member at a clay club bring a HG to shoot disks.

So hopefully, we're all smart enough not to do that - but why? Heck if someone could get it approved, it would be fun to try to bust a few clays with shot loads in the 1911. (Not that the chance will arrive in our lifetime.)

Just over 1/4 oz of #9 @ 1100 fps - plenty for close clays - pink spring on the trap - less distance concern than a 410. Fun - yes. Legal - no. Ill advised - probably. ;)

By who? It's not like people are jumping at the chance to be on a board.

While I agree with that, 95% of the work done at most clubs are done by 5% of the people. However a statement made by some lawyer about removable shotgun chokes making the shotgun prohibited is pure BS on his part. And I believe a full retraction should be published about his "sky is falling" attempt to drag more firearms into the recent IOC. The club exec that took that statement as being fact, law or gospel without looking into it needs to answer to their club members.

My club is following health care orders so no one is allowed inside except for washrooms where only one person at a time is allowed. Also my club is presently "DRY" no drinking allowed until this virus is over. Forgot indoor range is closed so only skeet and rifle ranges are open.
