So Canada gets the more expensive lamer version, sounds great!??

Our MR223 does not come from USA but come from europe, longer trip and bigger imaginary line ... despite that:

The MR556A1 rifle is has standard upper and will fit any regular AR, that is what is sold in USA for a street price of $2400. The MR223 rifle (and its upper) that we are buying here WILL NOT fit any other AR, and that is what we are paying $4000 for. Also Euro prices on the MR223 have long since dropped. On this particular rifle in Canada we are overpaying by a large amount. Some fuel for the flame.

So does anyone know if there is an FRT for the MR556 or MR556A1 in the system?

More expensive for sure!!

Lamer?...well in my opinion....not really....I mean would you really buy one complete HK rifle and then feel compelled to swap the upper onto another lower? or vice versa? I suppose having the option would be nice, but would it really come up as a must have feature for you? Perhaps if 416 uppers were readily available, but since they are not....well:stirthepot2:

The only thing I can see as particularly "lame" about it is that it doesn't accept milspec lowers. Since they're only sold as complete rifles, I find that a bit of a moot point. It'd be like calling a JP LRP-07 "lame" because the upper doesn't fit onto lowers of some other brand.

Oh-oh the fanboys are out in force. Time to talk some smack about my Armalite. cou:

Nice rifle OP, congrats.

MR223's are expensive but I'd rather have the gun made in Germany than the MR556 made in the US.

I knew someone was going to say that. The lower is the main part made in USA (at HKs new manufacturing facility). Virtually everything else is german, the barrel is finished in USA from german blanks, the bolt carrier is german etc. Ill take the MR556A1 + $1500 in cash any day over the MR223. But hey, thats just stupid me.

Go for it elektrobug, it will be a nice rifle. I looked at one at the Shot Show and it was very nice. Reports are that it shot great too. For me, I just trust grumpy Europeans putting them together rather than anyone else. Look at the Sig Sauer 556 compared to the SAN 551 / 550. One is finished way better than the other, with much higher quality control. Some Sig Sauer USA 556's are good, but they have had tons of others with QC issues. Not too many QC issues with SAN guns, but elektrobug, you're right, you do pay through the nose for it.....

Failures out of DI guns, well that's a whole other argument. I like pistons, so does DevGroup and CAG (what the heck do those guys know anyways).

Arent piston guns only beneficial for sustained full auto fire with a suppresor? Of do you think rambo the range warrior can bump fire fast enough through 5 suspended truck tires to get the same effect? :p

There are many other benefits....when one plays at the range most guns, including DI's are just fine. Some people like to spend lots of money to have the coolest stuff (I'm guilty at times) but that's their own choice.

The HK416 is really nice, but not worth it. Personally I don't care if Devgru uses it or not. Good on them for killing Osama though.

Bottom line is people blow this piston vs. DI thing outta proportion. They both have advantages and disadvantages. DI gun is lighter. 10.4" 416 is as heavy as a 16" DI carbine but the piston runs cleaner. This is a fact...it just gets dirty at the front instead of crapping back in the upper receiver. I really didn't like how you have to remove the quad rail to get at the gas system. They should have designed it as a front end load. I also didn't like the proprietary height top rail. Not a huge deal but I had to adjust my optic mounts.

In the end, I got rid of my 416 in favor of the lighter DI system and never looked back. I say to each his own.

Here's an old shot next to a higher end DI gun:
