well I ended up with another HS Sendero stock here, a long action. I had a 300 Win Mag in a Sendero stock that I didn't shoot much,..sold it.

Now I'd like to build another Sendero style rifle but with a standard bolt face (.473) action. I'll just go pick up an SPS when I'm ready to build it. Been considering a 6.5-06 Improved with a 9" twist....or maybe a 280 Ackley, not sure what twist, I have the reamer for this one.

what do you think?

.284" bore long range target rigs aren't all that common. Most seem to be either .308" bores or .264" bores. Any reason why the .284" bore isn't more popular in this area?

Rick I believe one reason is bullet availability, however Berger now offers a 180gr VLD witha BC of 0.698 . One reason I'll be building a 7mm WSM.

Considering Berger's 30cal - 210 VLD has 0.640 BC the 180 sure seems like a step in the right direction. 14% less bullet weight, less recoil as well.

Interesting they are able to exceed the (BC) of the 30cal - 210gr bullet (.640)with the 7mm 168gr (.648) (thats 20% less bullet weight and it still carries a good hit) ! Nice part with the 168gr you can still use the 1-10 twist, where the 180 jumps to 1-9 twist.

The 6.5 Berger 140 gr still carries a 0.627 BC bullet (1-9twist required) with a 33% reduction in bullet weight (over the 210gr 30cal).... The 6.5-06 can still use qaulity Lapua brass!
