I'm still new to the pistol world and no nothing about 1911's. I was wondering what some of the your thoughts were on the norinco np-28 9mm , as I can't find alot of info on the np-28 but lots on the np-29. Is the only difference the wider frame and double stack mag. what are the pro's and con's. For the np-28 what are some suggestions for replacement grips posably thiner??

while not owning one yet, I have shot both versions and they are pretty good.

Great price point anyways. The grip is a bit bigger so it will depend on how it fits your hand.

The grip panels are pretty stock so you can't really get too much thinner with replacements at this point.

I've not owned one, I had an NP30 instead Cons': My chief complaint with my NP30 (hi cap .45) was magzines.....hard to find. I suspect the NP28 will have the same issue. So if you do get one, order a bunch of mags at the same time. Allegedly Caspian mags with fit the NP30, not sure if this is true for the NP28. I removed the factory rubber grip on mine and replaced it stock walnut grips. A little sanding and trimming to fit and they were good to go. Other than that, I suspect the NP28 will be a sturdy, reliable pistol.

Have you considered an NP29 and using 10rd mags?

NP28 vs NP29

Personally, I'd take the NP29 over the NP28. The double stack mags for the NP28 are "one offs". I don't know of anyone other than Norinco that makes mags for them. But there are lots of makers of single stack 9mm 1911 mags that can be used in the NP29.

Plus, I just don't like double stack 1911's.... :runaway:

I already bought the np-28 of a fellow cgn it's coming with five mags. So hopefully I wont need any for a while. Replacing parts on the np-28 the same as any other 1911? or different because of the wide body of the double stack mag?

Well, now that the horse has left the barn, I would stock up on those mags. Some of the other things are interchangeable with 1911 (sights, guide rod, springs, slide stop), but mags are a concern. The Norinco's use a narrow tenon for the front sight if you want to replace it without resorting to dovetailing a new front sight.

Also, I don't know how the thumb safety differs. These sometimes break and perhaps STI or Para parts might fit since it is a wide body 1911 frame, but not sure on that, might require some fitting.
