I am thinking of getting a np30 (norinco double stack 1911). Anybody have experience with these models? I handled one at epps this weekend & it seemed to handle nice. I need something to T-54 company(1000rnds & counting). Thanks!

No first hand experience, but I think it was NAA that pointed out in an earlier post that since the mags are limited to 10 rounds anyway, you basically trade off part's compatibility to gain a fat grip.

Can I be the first to say that it's actually NP-30?

I have no experience with one, but a club member has one, and is very unhappy with it and would very much like to sell it. He reports that it jams with both hardball and softball, and its not the magazine - he has 5. This is only one owner with one gun, so it is hardly definitive.

I've got 2 of them an would buy another one downside is you are stuck with factory mags the rest of the gun is fairly interchangeable with the 1911 family......except the trigger.......and mine like hardball lead roundnose as well as hollowpoints......and handloads in all of the above

I was under the impression that you had to use Norinco mags with this pistol and that was teh only option. Am I wrong?

Are the rest of teh parts compatable with the 1911 clones? Trigger different thats it?

Same story with the 9mm version of the Norinco double stack?

Thanks,
Dallas

I was under the impression that the grips, main spring housing, beaver tail safety, mag well, and magazine were all unique to the NP-30. I can't recall where I picked all that up though so take it with a giant grain of salt. I had no idea the trigger might be different.

Little known fact is that the trigger and mags from a Caspian will work in this gun. Believe me, I have done it. You can use a standard ambi safety, if you are proficient with a welder and a dremel tool. Other than that, standard 1911 everything will work, even the grips.

i have one, no problems after thousands of rounds, reloads and factory- have to use Norinco mags though- get lots- i have 5

For the model 30?

That's a neat trick. Good to have a second source. What do Caspian Arms hi-cap mags run for? I'm guessing its a lot more than NP30mags.

Caspian mags are about $65 US, but they work soooo much better. The one caveat is that you have to do a little bit of fitting in the mag well to get them to drop consistently. This involves stripping the gun and playing with a file, until they fall freely, then polishing it. It only takes about a half an hour for this job. Also, yes the grips are interchangeable with those on a standard 1911.
