I'm just adding some pictures that I took years ago. I sold my NP34 years ago.

The first generation NP34s were a faithful copy of a mid-1980s 228. The top of the locking block was flat like on a SIG. Then they had all these problems with the frame rails cracking, so they bevelled up the side of the locking block. Then, when the .40 cal model came out, they had to replace that section of the frame rails alltogether to stop it from cracking. Now they do that with the 9mm models as well.

I never had any problem with mine, but I didn't shoot it alot either.
