np22 pros and cons

Its a decent gun.

I've owned one for a while, it has a bit over 3000 rounds through it. Does it work? Yes. I've had one major failure in which the trigger bar broke, so loses some points there. Apart from that, function has been flawless. Only other major downside is that the new SIG P226 mags don't work without modification. The mag catch hole needs to be expanded slightly. Any holster for the P226 Railed version will work, personally I use a Bladetech.

So, overall it's a decent deal, but consider other options. If you go to the range and shoot 50 rounds once every few weeks this will be great. But as time goes on, your ammunition will cost more than your gun anyway so make sure you're buying what you like rather than what is less expensive.

Clobbersauras' thread thread is a good resource, and it looks like you've already read through it.

I put a few thousand rounds through mine. Wanted a cheap entry into the pistol game. Mine is quite accurate, finish was very poor. To be quite honest, I miss shooting it, but I bought a M&P core and so I cleaned up any machining marks, and had it cerakoated pink/matte black. Now it is the wifes and I don't get to shoot it as much anymore lol.

For $100 more you can get a Ruger SR9....not that it's the cats ass or anything, but a big step up from Nork....there are quite a few really decent guns for not much more money. Dlask had some GP K100's for $399.
SAM 1911's start at $450 in 9mm if you want all steel.
The extra quality you can get for that extra $100 is a lot.

on the whole I may agree ith this statement..but the np series is different from all the other norcs I've owned, it really is much better...if you havnt handled or shot one you shouldn't knock them...yes it's a norinco, but it's moved on in production quality....just mho...I now have the real thing, and it's not far superior in feel....

Oh I've worked my way through most of the Nork line at one time or another...and IMHO there isn't a single one that is worth the low prices. There seems to be 2 types of owners of these, ones that only care about function and can live with the low QC fit and finish, and ones that will always be dissapointed with the low quality fit and finish even at the price.
When you shoot a lot, spending $3-$4k on ammo a year, the few hundred $$ extra you spend on a decent gun doesn't mean much. The exterior finish may be a bit better on the latest Nork's, but the insides are still rough as hell, and fitting is still sloppy.

Hi hitzy..
Not having a go...lol..generally my nirinco 1911's have lacked somewhat in the finishing dept, but honestly, the last version np-22 is just "better"... Yes I have sold mine on, never thought I would, but found a sig for reasonable dough and decided to trade on..if the budget won't stretch for a sig, the np-22 is a damm good second choice ....

Been quite surprised by the dominion arms cqa's, not really into looks more interested in function at this point. Like I said i am not independently wealthy, and the intent is an entry level gun. I will not purchase 2 right off the bat but just one and see if I can afford this type of activity. Yes clobberasaurus' review was a bit of an eye opener, but in light of recent experience with DA CQA' s I will take the risk.
Not interested in having a locker full of guns worth more than whats in my driveway.
And again thank you for all the constructive advice.

Just to add to the fun about the NP-22

Take a look at mine now, just put this slide mounted red dot sight on it this week. Had it out to the range last night and shot really well. $100 for the Sightmark sight (Thanks Frontier) and $70 SIG 226 mount that fit perfect. The stock Norinco back site came out without too much convincing. Just to add, I bought this gun used from the EE for $300 shipped with 2 mags and Hogue grips, it functions as well as my CZ Shadow that I am into for over $1000. Time will tell, but I have put a few hundred rounds through it already with no fussiness about ammo and no mis-feeds

I own one I bought new unfired off a fellow gun nut, and it's been an incredible value for 300 bucks. Fit and finish was well above average and it shoots very accurately. I did replace the slide recoil spring with a genuine Sig 16lb sport spring (orange) and it functions even better shooting hotter 124gn reloaded or mil-surp ammo, no more slide slap where it feels like the slide makes a "clack" sound when shooting.

It's always used every time I hit the range, well over 1000 rounds and not one failure to fire or malfunction. Highly endorsed.

Well I do not have a NP22 I have it's little brother the NP 34 a SIG 228 clone.

I have shot it since Spring and while I heard Norcs can be both good and bad I thought for under 370.00 with 2 mags and other goodies take a chance.

Got it from Reliable Gun and Tackle and speaking with them they are awesome even sent a holster and mag holder for free!

So added Hogue grips, added a SRT kit (short reset trigger) and the more I shoot the more I like it!!

My buddy tried to talk me into a Glock but I am old school and prefer a pistol of all metal substance.

It just feels so much better than the Glocks to me, it has better balance, and it just easy to shoot for me.

Got 228 mags off Ebay now I have 3, but whether 226 or 228 mags they really are not that hard to find, anyways think I am going shooting now I just like her too much, far as the finish goes it is the best I have seen yet from Norc and the beefier slide rails will ensure many many years of reliable fun.
