I just bought a Norinco NP29 9mm 1911. I then purchased a .45cal bushing comp only to find out that the 9mm barrel has a smaller OD then the .45. I was wondering if this is unique to the late model NP29? Or are all 9mm 1911 barrels like this? As it stands the bushing comp will go on my next gun a .45 comander or the one after that, a .45 Gov ( I've caught the 1911 disease. Im not even over the AR virus yet. ) if I could find a cheap( under $100 ) 9mm barrel With a larger OD then I would use that. Any suggestions/help?

I have a NP29 9mm and the barrel is like a pencil...I searched everywhere for a replacement bushing that was "snug fitting" and I could not find a thing...I too wound up with a Wilson bushing that will fit another gun in the future...I then bought a RIA in 9mm...The barrel on the Rock is about twice as heavy as on the Norinco it is very thick and looks like it's made of a different material to boot...the rock is a great shooter...my Norinco is going to change calibers once I find a barrel for it....(hopefully a 40) :D

You'll need a new slide as well, different breachfaces.

Those bushing comps won't do much anyway,

Norinco copied the origional Colt 9mm barrels. They had a .491 diameter IIRC as opposed to the .581 of regular barrels.

The last time I worked on one, the only supplier of new bushings was Kings via Brownells. Numrich Arms might be another source.

I think what I'm going to do now is brush nickel plate the existing bushing. ( and the safety, beaver tail, trigger and mag release) black and brushed nickel should look good. The bushing comp was more for looks ( looks funny) then anything else.

I have one of the KINGs bushing from Brownells in my NP29. It is much tighter and required a fair amount of fitting between the bushing and the slide in order for the bushing to be able to turn inside the slide to allow disassembly.

Definitely tightened up the barrel to slide fit, But I can't take it apart without a barrel wrench.
