Hi all,
I was just looking at the Norinco NP34 9mm pistol online. Can anyone tell me what sort of quality these pistols are. They look like they have a cheap shiny finish in the photos, but I am wondering if that is just the lighting??
Also, do they take SIG parts, especially barrels and mags?
I am assuming that if these pistols had an actual P229 barrel, they would be prohibited?
Lastly, in a "hypothetical Canada", is this gun of sufficient enough quality that you would be comfortable with using it as a concealed carry gun to defend your life?
I do realise that the very fabric of society in Canada would unravel if anyone did this for real, hence I am putting it out there as a hypothetical situation.

Hmm

So I post a simple question regarding a pistol I am not familiar with. I ask a question as to the reliability and quality of the gun.
In response, I get a sarcastic comment from someone who can't even spell, and off the thread goes down the road of "liberalism in Canada".
All I wanted was an opinion on the pistol.
If this is too much to ask on a firearms - pistol forum, how about we forget about it.
 
The Norinco will accept Sig parts from the P228-229 series. In fact, with several Norinco copies I have worked with, the best practice is to replace the springs with Sig springs (or Wolff) because generally the Chinese springs are of lesser quality. Also, in one case I had to replace a few part (trigger bar and sear) with Sig parts due to poor fitting Norinco parts in the gun.
 
I have had my NP-34 for just over a year. The only thing I have done to it is replace the grips with Hogues and I bought new Mags for it (Mec-Gar $35.00 at Marstar). I have about 2000 rounds thru it so far and have yet to have any kind of failure. It will take Sig parts and I did buy a Sig spring/parts kit that has not been installed as I wanted to see how long it would take for the need to replace anything. The finish is not as nice as a real Sig (I own several) but the fit is quite good. All and all I am very happy with it and would have no problem carrying it if it was allowed.
 
I have a pair of these, plus soem real SIGs. They function the same and the fit and finish of the Norcs is very good.

I would trust them 100%.

I have a spare SIG 229 slide that I have used on the Norc. It works just fine, but no better than the Norc. Gun looks better, though.

If you buy a Norc, you can have this SIG slide for $150.

Bought an NP34. Fit and finish were very nice, I was quite pleased. Didn't have a chance to shoot it yet so I dry fired a few hundred times. Heard a TING one day and discovered the tip of the firing pin had sheared off and flown out the barrel.

Sold it and bought a real SIG (two in fact). Never looked back.

I don't think you are supposed to dry fire any pistol a few hundred times. You should get some snap caps.

+1. I have one and I agree with everything said above. It functions 100% with anything I have fed it. The fit is good, but the finish isn't close to the SIG. Of course, neither is the price. One thing not yet mentioned is that the double action trigger pull is very heavy, but smooth (on mine, anyway). The SA trigger is not bad at all, break is crisp with no creep and the weight is not bad, but the reset is a bit long. I am using the Hogue grip with no finger grooves and it fits my small hands very well for a double stack 9mm. If you have bigger hands, the finger groove grips may be a better choice for you.

Overall they are a good value for the money and I am quite happy with mine.

im not sure anyone could say they take that responsibility seriously and decide to carry a norinco.

ive owned a few nork pistols, and in my opinion at least for the purposes of CC i would say F**K NO.

theyre great if you wana get into shooting and have some fun though.
 
Why wouldn't you carry a nork for ccw, people carry high standards and other debatable guns. No one should trust a gun out of the box for CCW and pretty much every expert on the subject says you should fire 200 rds at least through it before carrying. It's also not hard to replace springs on the norks, I did this with my NZ-85b and it has a very nice DA trigger now. I will take a properly cared for nork over a gun forgotten and not maintained any day of the week.

I have been held up at knife point years ago and when I got away was chased by two of the guys. I was a young man then (and I ran five days per week), they had no chance once I got moving. Nowadays I would prefer a pistol as I am not in running shoes as much any more. I was/am not a criminal, I had just gotten off the bus going to work in the city.

I love Canada and I think it is a good place to live, but s**t happens everywhere.

We buy home, life, disability, and auto insurance for events we hope will never happen (in fact it is law that you have fire and auto), I see concealed carry as no different.
