Any questions or concerns, please contact myself or ozzy1 and we will help you out, as we get closer to the match dates we will be updating this thread SO PLEASE CHECK BACK OFTEN, and ask all the question you want.

Pretty sweet. 9 3 gun matches and a pistol match in the Peace country this year. We should put all the dates into one thread.

Just a quick question, what ranges would be shot with the rifle in these matches? 10-200yds? Past 200?

Thanks

At the NPRG range we've shot from contact distance to about 175 yds, at the matches I've attended.

We've gone as far as 300m in Peace River.

That depends on you. We've got lots of guys who run red dots successfully.

The long shots are occasional. Not many of the rifle shots in a match will go past 100m.

Basically it's like Steve says, it's the archer and not the arrow.... Any long range targets would be full size idpa target size. I have shot matches with everything from open sights on a mini14 to aimpoint m4s, h1, eotech 553, leupold vx-r 1.25-4 and am currently running a Elcan specterDR 7.62....

Things I have learned, 95% of the courses of fire are CQB and under 50yds.... Your going to make up your time shooting fast with a red dot.,.. Remember all you have to hit is an 8" circle to score "zero down".... Faster you can do it the better your over all time, a 2MOA Reddot is easily capable of making reliable hits out to 300 yds easily, at 200 yds the dot is only covering 4 inches of your target....

With a 50 yd zero on your 223 your .5 high at 100 and 3" low at 200 roughly.... So as long as you hold center your going to hit no problem.

Another thing to consider is eye relief on magnified optics generally suck for shooting in modified positions.... The red dots like h1/t1 and eotech you can hold the gun at arms length and still shoot accurately.

Ok thanks guys, I have both a red dot and 1-4 so thought I would ask. I'll start with the dot.

We have a set of 12" square plates that we hang from one corner on one chain. They move quite readily when hit so they're easy to spot. We rarely put cardboard targets past 50m as it takes too long to reset and score them.

Expect to see the 12" plates out to (at least) 150m in PR.

The kids just made 48x 6" round plates with flat bases as well, mild steel so shotgun/pistol only..... So expect some higher round count shotgun stages.... Plus we have 4 of those MGM pigeon throwers coming as well.

AND YES, all of our targets on rifle past 50yds are all steel.... 12-18" square/round minimum
