As much as I would love to use my m305 scout, the 5 round capacity will hinder me greatly.

My criteria is, must use AR pistol magazines, and be NR. Reasons for NR, so I can use it to devastate the gopher population at the farm.

So, what does that leave me with? Tavor, SU-16? Are there any NR AR variants out there?

Opinions?

Type 97, SU 16, Tavor, X95, XCR, Modern Varmint, Jard, AR 180, VZ 58 in 556 with magazine adapter, FS2000 with replacement barrel, ACR with replacement barrel, Bushmaster M17S

These are the NR options that take AR mags that I know of. They range from sub 1000 to 4000+ price wise.

My Modern Varmint rocked at the Surefire World Multigun! Well worth the price if you want AR ergonomics/customization with a non restricted status! First targets in this video are 300+ meters.

use "video" BBC code instead of old "youtube code"

Nice Shirt, would like to have as part of my collection. and good shooting too

That could almost certainly be arranged... send me a PM if you want and I can get you in touch with the guy who made them for us. We had them made a couple years ago but I imagine he still has the design saved.

Nice rifle and good showing. However why choose this NR firearm when there are cheaper dedicated 3 gun ARs? Not being critical just curious.

There is no reason.... Some think atrs is the pinnacle of quality but that's a falsehood. There are lots of good NR 3 gun options that are far cheaper than a MV.

IMO people who endlessly promote MV are simply trying to justify/rationalize the money they spent... For that kind of cash, you could have an awesome AR and an awesome non restricted hunting rifle

There are 10 round magazines legally available for your M305: https://www.wolverinesupplies.com/ProductDetail/ELAAIAMAG_E-Lander-A1A-M10-Type--308-Magazine--10-Round
I've bought a couple of these and they work fine in my M305. Is the M305 optimal for 3 gun and gopher duty? That if a different matter you have to ask yourself, but 10 rounders are accessible.

Just because you don't like a particular rifle or company doesn't mean "There is no reason". I have done enough shooting across Canada and internationally to know what I want in a rifle, and the MV ticked a lot of boxes for me. I was at the point where I wanted to build/buy a higher end side charging AR, specifically for 3 gun. I wanted billet receivers, no forward assist, 18" stainless match barrel, good trigger, JP silent buffer etc. The MV had everything I wanted in a 3 gun rifle, plus it was non restricted. This meant I could buy a high end scope (Vortex Raqzor HD Gen II 1-6) and have one gun that I could use for 3 gunning, and for the odd opportunity I have to shoot off a range. For me, the little bit extra you pay for the rifle you get was worth it to have one gun, one scope that I can use for everything. Plus non of the non restricted options offer as good of ergo's in my opinion... I liked my XCR, but the old quad rail versions were very front heavy, and I just can't make myself like the FAST stock. Not to mention they aren't even in the same ballpark as the MV accuracy wise.

Plus this thread is about NR 3 Gun options... so your awesome AR and NR hunting rifle doesn't really fit the requirements does it? Maybe the OP doesn't live close to a range to practice with his fancy AR, but is willing to travel to shoot matches?

I am a MH/V supporter and feel it is a very fine rifle so it's not my intention to high jack this thread or sway opinion to this firearm. Just a query as a choice for 3 gun.

Yeah basically it came down to having similar specs to a lot of what I would consider good 3 gun rifles (18.5" match barrel, side charger, no forward assist, match trigger, jp buffer kit, lots of choices on hand guards, butt stocks, grips etc) plus it had the benefit of being Canadian made and non-restricted. Are there cheaper options for a NR 3 gun rifle? Sure... but none with the quality and ability to be customized like the MV.

I'm very impressed that a person can get legal 10 shot mags for a M1A. I'm going to grab a 5 pack of them for funsies!

After looking at the costs involved with a NR, I bought a Norc AR15 off the EE. Give it a go, I could always sell it if need be. I have a savage 223 that I can pop gophers with.

I still may try the M305 with 3 gun. I have a 1911 45acp as well, I think that would put me in the heavy iron class. Or, use the norc AR and my shadow SP01. Both sound fun!

Thanks for all the input!

quality? how so? There is no proof of quality nor proof of absence of quality that I can find anywhere at this point in time.
