Question as per title. Is the extra cost/wait for the NR receiver sets (.223/5.56) really worth it? Or should I just buy/build a regular AR-15. Im sure this has been discussed at length before but I'm new and the search function hasn't really turned anything up for me. Thanks in advance!

It all depends on whether you want a Restricted or Non-restricted rifle.

For range use only, and ease of confiscation by Justin, go restricted.

You can’t buy an AR 15 that is non restricted. There are models that are close in function and look but they’re are not AR 15. Are they worth it. Most definitely. You can spend $2000 on a Daniel Defense AR and only use it on at the range. Or build yourself a Modern Sporter or MDI for $2k and carry it around on your quad and shoot it in the woods. My advice. Buy both.

NR upper and lower set is what, about $1000?
A decent used AR is less than a grand.
Rob the parts, assemble the N-R. There's a N-R ARish type rifle for less than two thousand.

I'm not sure what you mean by this.

He means you're suspected of being a Liberal/Media troll as you are asking about what might or might not be banned. This is because you are a new member and therefore more suspect than the long term Liberal/Troll/Media types that we all know (suspect) hide out here.

It's nothing really personal. Some people have their tinfoil a little tight, but it's not really paranoia when the bastards ARE out to get us.

It all depends on whether or not you want to hunt or plink with it outside of a certified range buying both is always the happiest answer :)

If you want cheap to get into the game buy a bunch of used parts or an old Norinco AR. Scalp what you need and sell what you don’t. And a Maccabbe receiver set. Boom $1500 NR rifle.

I think in most cases you are going to get a more reliable rifle for your money with restricted, plus there’s a lot more options on the market.

That's me running a cost benefit analysis of the situation. Don't want to buy a pretty new toy and then have Trudolt take it away from me is all. Guess I'll stick to the newbie section until I'm all grown up.
Also love the weapon shops of Isher quote, my dad had a huge book shelf of sci fi when I was growing up.
