I'm looking at getting either an MCR or a wk180c. I know that overall the MCR is better quality, but I like that the wk180c has more parts available online. Is it possible to use ar-15 barrels on either of these? if so what about hand guards? Ideally I would like to have an 18.6" for some cqb courses my friends and I have built, and a 22" (or slightly longer) for longer plinking and some pest control. Is this possible to do on either of these? I understand the MCR has a 7.62x39 model, could this be used like an ar-15 to change calibres with the upper? thanks for any info

I hear that the MCR is a better build but a lot of that comes from folks that like it's specific features such as the right side of the receiver filled in and longer handguards. I have the WK-180 and those specific items don't concern me. I prefer the charging handle on the right side and like to see more barrel poking out the handguards being an old school AR15 guy with a couple 16" old school AR carbines over the years. To be honest you won't go wrong with either rifle. They are both fine and will do the job of providing a NR rifle for all uses. Expect minor quirks as it is not an AR but it will do you well. The WK does use AR15 barrels and handguards and I suspect the MCR does too.

You can use AR-15 barrels with a carbine length gas port. ATRS can make those for you in Canada.

The handguard has to have enough clearance for the piston system. True North Arms has handguards of the proper clearance noting in the description they are WK180C compatible.

Certain triggers work out of the box, while others do not fit or need modification. You can search by trigger name here for more info.

Wolverine has partnered with Xtreme to provide MCR uppers and lower receivers for builds. You will also need an MCR proprietary parts kit.

True North Arms has all the propietary and receiver parts to build a WK180C from scratch.

At the end of this month, Sylvestre will be bringing in the Jard J180 build kits. Unlike with the other 180 rifles, this uses a gas tube instead of a piston to actuate the 180 semi automatic system, so you will be able to use an AR-15 barrel with any length gas port with that firearm.
