NR Mini 30

Also interested in info here. Always enjoyed the simplity of the Mini platform, kind of a step back from all my black rifles and they carry so nice. Always wondered how they ran with surplus cause I'd heard rumours of light primer strikes. Owners chime in.

bought my first rifle, a mini 30 a few years back and a case of 1120 7.62x39mm

light primer strikes happen with surplus ammo for sure maybe 1/50?
accuracy? never sat down to bench it, i would be surprised if surplus was doing right in line with the sks. add an accu-strut for some improvement iirc.
cleaning is very easy after a shooting session, that bolt can be a pain sometimes though.

Had mine for 5 years and am really tired of the surplus ammo issues. Easy to clean but the bold can be a pain to re-insert sometimes. Decent accuracy, using a cheap Bushnell red dot but have never scoped it up to really check.

Just bought a case of LCW Non-corrosive made in Ukraine and had a 35% failure to fire. SKS shoots these with no issue and the size of the pin strike on the primer is huge compared to the Mini 30. I've confirmed this with other surplus ammo also, SKS will shoot no problem what my Mini 30 won't.

I've tried the Wolf spring mod a few years ago without much difference. I'm done with this as is and if I can't repair/mod the firing pin to get this work with surplus I'll trade this in. Found some videos online with success and mine's apart right now ready to go at this.

Shame really, because I like how it handles, shoots and feels. When working it's one of the most comfortable guns I've owned.

I have never had an issue with mine involving ammo. mine will shoot whatever I put in it. norinco and Romanian mainly. my only complaint is the magazines. the factory ruger ones feed beautifully but I find are too short and hard to remove quickly. and the large aftermarket mags(5/30) I find are not reliable. it is a very nice bush gun. short and nice to handle.

love mine- when I open the safe I show it to others first- with a zeiss matching scope it is a knock out...then I show them my 2 97's, one with FTU and one for spare parts..lol

Well I got myself one and I'm more than impressed after opening the box. 2xmags and the receiver is pre drilled for the supplied pic rail. I'll throw one of my fast fires on there and go have some fun :)

I have owned two mini 30's. Love the platform and the cartridge. One was fairly accurate - good enough for deer hunting anyway, the other was abysmally inaccurate and no load I tried would change that. They both were completely reliable with all ammo I tried. Your mileage may vary ...
