Hi there,

I would like to know your suggestion sur an affordable (1500$~~) NR Semi-Auto Rifle (5.56 / 308win caliber)

For the 5.56 caliber, i found these model but i dont know about their general reliability so i need you guys :)

Kel-Tec RDB (5.56)
Norinco T97 Gen2 (5.56)
w180c (5.56)
Stag-10 (308)
BCL 102 / Troy 102 (308)
BCL Badger (556) Not available yet ? ETA? :S

Do you have any others recommendations ? My main activity with this gun will be for target shooting, some hunting could be nice too . Thanks!

An older Norinco M14S or M305 (2007 batch or earlier) can be had for around $600 and is 308 / 7.62. Can be shot with the existing iron sights, or equipped with a scope mount. Mine have been rock solid reliable.

I had one and I must say that for the money they are the best return for the investment. Way under your budget.

.308 ammo isn't cheap.

You can get 1000 rounds of 5.56 for $420 if you watch for deals. I haven't seen cases of 7.62x51 for awhile now, but I think they run over $600. If you buy regular boxes of .308... bang=dollar bang=dollar bang=dollar.

If you want to shoot ALOT, then get a 5.56. If you are going to get into reloading, or you get little, but precious range time, then .308 all day!

Keltec wears out too quickly, imo. They aren't meant for lots of shooting. Serious depreciation in value once the round count climbs. I do love my SU16 though.

T97 Gen2 guys seem to love them, but I can't get over the $1000+ price tag, on a rifle that should be $350.

My m305 was awesome! They tend to be hit or miss, with plenty of lemons mixed in, so buy one off a guy who knows them.

Bullseye has a FNFNAR for …$1700-ish? Very reliable and accurate, but the mags are expensive, and it sure is blue..

I was debating on a w180 as well. Lots of good reviews and feedback on here. IMo, any NR semi that takes AR mags, is a good buy and must have for this country.

Indeed, the .308 ammos are pretty damn expansive. Since i want to shot alot of ammos on range i should get a 5.56 instead. I was thinking to get a RDB but indeed the reliability seems to be poor and i dont like the cheap plastic feel of it.

You can add the Benelli MR1 to this list.
It shoots 223 & 5.56(as confirmed by the manufacturer), takes AR mags, and uses the same gas system as their famous shotguns.
I wouldn't pay retail for one, but they sell for 1200-1300 all day and are extremely well built, made in Italy, and pleasant to shoot.

Just noticed someone mentioned it earlier... in my opinion you can do better on price with that one, so here is a better priced one I found for you for sale:

*Also obviously no affiliation with the seller, I just know this is what they usually sell for.

I saw a Maccabee SLR for around that money on the EE. That would be my choice. I like a lot of the others, but you can endlessly upgrade to your hearts content and that appeals to me more so than the other choices.

I would add a newer mini 14 to your list can be had on ee around $800, add a scope or red dot and some ammo with the extra money.

I was seriously thinking of going that route. Where im located there is no gunsmith and i dont feel confident enough of building it myself...

I spoke with some trustfull shop and the delay is pretty long since they have huge backlogs of projects... :(

Norinco M14S or M305 probably your best bet, so hard to find anything these days less than 2500cad and for that pricepoint, they're awesome.

Most of the options mentioned in this thread are well over the $1,500 mark. For .223/5.56 there are really only the 2 options that are AR-like; the WK-180 or whatever the new model is called and the upcoming BCL/SLR Coyote. Other than that you have your T97, Mini 14 and VZ58 that come in at or under that price point.
