The problem I see is, you can't attach the two magazines together permanently. Some sort of a plastic adapter would probably work but you must be able to separate the magazines if you ever want to disassemble them for cleaning or repair.

Yeah, I like this idea. Those earth magnets are small and very strong.

Not many of those to be had, unfortunately. There is a thread on this forum about mag availiability (sorry, I'm not computer literate enough to post a link).
