Ok so it wasn't quite the performance I was after but it was still pretty good.
For those that are wondering about the NSCC Service Rifle matches I'll try to explain a little about them.
We shoot 4 different types of matches in Service Rifle at each of the 4 distances for a total of 16 matches.
#1. Deliberate Fire
This type of match gives you 12 minutes to fire a couple of sighters and then 10 shots on score. It is always fired prone on a figure 12 target on a 4ft frame. The targets are operated by people in the butts which is a safe enclosed cement bunker under the targets. Each shot you fire on a deliberate match is indicated and scored by the pulling down of the target and placing a orange plastic spotting disk in the bullet hole AND one in pre arranged positions on the edge of the target frame to indicate the shot value of your shot. Target then gets run back up and you then can figure out where your shot landed and the score. Scoring rings are V,5,4,3, and 2.
#2. Snap Fire match.
In snap matches the targets are only exposed for a short time in which you fire your shots. Generally they are run on a fig 12 target attached to a hand held stick that is then operated by the person in the butts. The snap match at 200m is shot from the kneeling position but all other distances are shot prone. You have 10 seconds to assume the kneeling position and fire two shots on your target before it disappears into the butts. Scoring is V.5 and 4.
#3. Rapid Fire match.
In a rapid fire match you have 30 seconds to assume the shooting position from a standing alert position and fire your 10 shots on two separate targets with a mag change. At 200m you shoot this sitting or kneeling and prone at all the other distances. The targets are figure 11s. Scoring is V,5 and 4.
#4. Fire and Movement match.
In this type of match you will fire shots at each distance as you move down the range. At 500m, 400m and 300m you fire everything prone. At 200m its either kneeling or sitting. At 100m you are only shooting standing. Target at 500m is a fig 12 on the 4ft frame. All the rest of the distances it is a fig 12 on a handheld stick. It is two shots at each distance on the 500-100m rundown but you will fire more at the shorter distance rundowns.
My Classic 1-12 which is shot at 200m,300m and 500m was a 570-61v/600.
My 1-16 which is all of the above plus a 400m phase was 761-77v/800.
My second stage which is only shot by the top 1/2 of the shooters that shot 1-16 was a 195-20v/200
So my overall NSCC Service Rifle score was 956-97v/1000.
Wasn't as good as last year but I actually learned more this year than last year!
