How about a Bear Flare/Banger?

X2.

Aiming to the right of the target at 75 yards and then further right.

Why would the OP want to use a bear banger?

Is it because the bear is perceived to be a potential threat? Or just for entertainment?

If it is because of threat perception; what is the outcome of that process?

Potentially bear finds OPs yard no longer attractive and happy; so bear now moves on to the next yard that proves an easy hit. Problem is still not solved. Just moved to someone elses yard, endangering them and their family.

Then there will be a new thread about how to get a bear out of a root cellar, or whatever. Bottom line, it is only moving the problem, and endangering someone else, who may not be saavy enough to deal with the problem.

If you are in the camp that thinks a bear banger is the ultimate solution, here's a news flash. That will NOT return Yogi to his natural wild state, happy to be in the woods, and away from human settlement. All it is doing is delaying an inevitable encounter, that certainly won't end up good for the bear. How it will work for the occupants of the next place he finds as an attractive grocery source, remains to be found out.

Give your heads a shake, and provide the OP with sound advice.

Yep. Talk to the CO's and see what they have to say. The local lot have a bear trap that they keep here in town for just such purposes. Then the bear is their problem, not yours. Once they have the bear in the trap, I don't much care if they drive it a thousand miles away, or back it down the boat launch while they have a cup of coffee, as long as the bear doesn't bother me again.

A fed bear is a dead bear, as the saying goes, but it was never the food that got the bear killed, it was the proximity to people. A bear that will live a long and healthy, natural life, is one that spits out the mouthful of berries so as to avoid choking while running, when it hears an engine or a truck door open. Unfortunately, bears get used to that people don't pose much of a threat, in most places.

If all you really want is the bear to be someone else's problem, rubber blunts on an arrow work as well as anything, and are quiet. More accurate than most are with a slingshot too.

I have zapped a bear in the arse with the Fiocchi rubber slugs and they were not very useful in my circumstances. Moral of that wee story, if you are going to pull out a gun, use it effectively. And legally.

Talk to the CO's, get it dealt with correctly. Three S management has it's own issues. (Shoot, Shovel, STFU).

Cheers

Young adult up way too early (very wet spring maybe flooded out??) in the spring decided to move under my front deck and hit the snooze alarm. Not sure what to do. Kind of a funny story. Heard a commotion under the front deck which doubles as a storage area. It is a dirt floor and you have to get on your hands and knees the last bit. No light either. So I look around the shelving and am nose to nose with a young adult black who is 3/4 asleep. I mentioned a few ###ual acts which perked up the spouse's ears and backed out of there in a hurry. So now I have bear who is very comfortable with no desire to move on. The solution was simple: Set up Rock 101 on the big speakers, turned the dial to ten (very pre-digital setup), placed the speakers next to window nearest to him. I then sat on the deck and got comfortable. Took about ten minutes and he/she (not sure what letter of the alphabet the bear's ###ual preference was:) stumbled out and wandered off. Not the same problem as the OP but a possible solution. They hate noise. Another bear story. People with an apple orchard near Cedarvale put car radios in the trees and cranked them up in a effort to keep the bears out of their trees. The bear destroyed every single radio in one evening, so they definitely had his attention.

calling a CO is a good idea next time
I usually just chase black bears off by running after them throwing rock and yelling it has worked for the last 40 sum years but home made bear banger is a lot more fun
I have never lived in any large city's and only work in the bush, town job are bad luck fore me and I feel more at easy in the bush I much rather deal with the bears over a crackhead or drunk any day

Bear bangers are used to scare bears away...
Be it from your immediate presence or from your camp.
The same for the rubber bullets or slugs or bean bag rounds.

They are all used to varying degrees of instilling a negative reinforcement of bear in humans yard stumbling upon some seeds in a bird feeder.

I think by reading between the lines the OP though some #9 bird shot might be enough of a negative reinforcement to move the bear along as that was all that he had at the time.

Oh Well, time to move along to something more entertaining...like going for a ride on the bike.
Hmm, Vancouver to Lillooet via Whistler and Pemberton and back with a stop at the Wild Pony in Pemberton for a Super Ultimate Burger....
Yum!

The season is still open, why bother with COs, messy questions,
what exactly constitutes defending person or property, non lethal methods, shovels or shutting up?
I did not realize back bear still open forgot what I said best way is to get tag and remove the bear permanently
