Number of Canadian C1 Rifles produced

Yep, all gone. The navy got stuck with the C7 & C8 family for a while until they procured the MP5 for boarding party purposes.

There is (either going to be or underway) a project to replace the C7/C8 family with a Personal Defense Weapon, for use of the non-frontline soldiors (mechanics, truckers....) There is no decision yet whether it will be more MP5, SMG size AR type SMG, or something completely different.

Wouldn't the C1 Sterling have been perfect for that application?

are they gonna stick with the 9mm ? if so that will rule out p90 and mp7 (my fav).

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy shooting my sterling. But it's a nostalgia thing. There is a reason why nobody is using these in front line service (if at all) anymore.

No idea, and the LCMM had no definite insight into it either.

They brought some P-90's to CFSAC one year as a demo, and showed them off, let some of us get to shoot them too. (Much fun)

There was mention made that they'd probably work quite well in a nautical environment, and hey, why didn't the Navy buy them...there was some consternation at that comment, and I gather that some bitterness was going on behind the scenes.

As I understand, the Navy's purchase of the MP-5 came as a surprise to the LCMM Small Arms...so much so that the first shipment arrived and he had no idea it was even coming....

I would doubt that the Navy will change from 9mm as it's standard caliber.
