Nutnfancy SHOT Show 2011: "Savage, Scared of No One"

This booth review livens up a lot when Savage host Bill lays down some smack talk on his products' accuracy. Now we're talking! Don't get me wrong: I think he speaks truth and they have the trophies to prove it. And I like it when manufacturers brag about the capabilities of their guns even when it's in the reputable and proven company of Sako, Remington, AI, Desert Tactical Arms, Marlin, McMillan, Browning, Ruger, and others. But I believe the Savage formula for accuracy indeed works and they spend time with the components that count. In many of their models, you will get a lot of gun for the money. The Model 10 in all its LE forms still sets great standards in value while having excellent accuracy, a great trigger, and good stock offerings. In this short booth review we discuss that rifle a bit then move on to some F-Class offerings, the 110BA, 10BA, the value-setting Axis rifle, some Stevens shotguns (Ithaca design), and a few rimfires. Short, sweet, to the point. Oh yeah: and Savage ain't scared of no one. Bring it!

i like the value of savage products. but i dont get the side rails on a precision rifle man! who the hell design that #### and thought it was a good idea. there are just too many rails!

i dig the semi auto 22 tac rifle. also the scout rifle. and always been a big fan of the 10 with mc millan stock. unbeatable value.

I'm assuming (and you know what they say about assuming) that the use for side rails on a precision rifle would be to mount accessories like ballistic calculators, levels or laser designators. Mostly i think that the rails are to satisfy the wants of ninja's and thats ok too as long as the thing shoots.

What a nice presentation. Maybe is a time to take a look at Savage. First time I got one about 8 years ago I didn't like it, but things change. At least Savage listen to its costumers.

I like facts and representing your product but I'm not a fan of a professional smack talking other manufacturers and other people. Anyone that bashes other's products and people's intelligence looses my respect. If you have a great product and you believe that then just say so, show the facts and they will speak for themselves. The nut gives the accuracy? That comment in itself tells you something. Think about it.
Just my opinion as always.

Although not a Savage fan, I enjoyed the video. I personally found it refreshing that Savage's rep. wasn't pulling any punches and is willing to put his money where his mouth is. I think stirring the pot a little leads to healthy competition, which in the end benefits the consumer. Just look back to the Muscle car era when competition on the track and the showroom produced some of the most iconic bad-ass cars ever made!

The reputation that Savage is building right now speaks for itself.

I love the part about someone who's never shot one and an idiot. Theres a fella that has Savage mentioned in his signature that comes to mind. Guess he's never shot one...............;)

I own 4 Savages and one Remington. If I hadda waited 3 years, it woulda been 5 Savages and no Remington rifles.

Never knew that the Savage Rimfire line-up was made right here in Canada. I guess I will have to pick 1 up now.

I was pleasantly surprised when i saw made in Canada on the box of a Savage 17hmr I was looking at. Needlessly to say I now own it :)

I did a lot of research and bought a Savage rimfire for my wife at Christmas.
Hard to beat the price point for accuracy.

They are made in Lakefield Ontario just outside Peterborough.

I love my Savages and when I had an issue with a 12FV the CEO called me directly from his home and worked to get me a new 12BVSS for no extra charge for my hassle. They also gave me a tour of the Lakefield factory along with a T-Shirt, Ear plugs, Safety Glasses and a Hat.

How does Remington treat their customers when there is a problem?. I seem to remember a gent here who bought a Remington varmint which had the same lack of accuracy issue as my Savage. Remington made him send it out to their gun smith at his own expense for shipping and wait 3-4mths to get it back this was after buying it only days before.

Savage solved my issues in days and gave me a rifle worth $400 more then I originally paid just to say they were sorry. They stand behind their products not only when talking smack but when there is an issue they solve it with the customer coming first!.

Savage is top notch and I can't wait to buy another one!

John, just go back a little bit in time when I was telling about my success with savage and see the chatter I received. The video IS professional, pleasant, by comparison.

You are right, a product should sit on its own merits and the cream rises to the top.

but that is not marketing or politics nowadays. Consumers want to hear the 'trash' talk, the smack downs, the geers and finger pointing.

IN YOUR FACE - is so prevelant, the US Olympic team was warned before the last summer and winter games to watch it or get sanctioned. Nice to know their coaches and international reps were paying attention.

there was a time that would have been considered unsportmanslike.

today, it boosts ratings....sad indeed. Wasn't Simon Cowel a pleasant man?

BUT, the big difference since I started playing with Savages is THIS video can be made AND a post like this is not filled with Rem'ers ranting on and on.

The market shift has been massive and even the most hardened Savage haters are starting to see the light. Hell, some are even selling product.

Rem based custom actions are starting to use 'Savage' design features to IMPROVE their performance. A div of Rem now makes a clone of the Savage and these are also selling very well.

Makes me smile....

Now for the NF/Sightron Shift. That'll be fun too.

Nothing would make me happier to see Rem, Win/Browning, Wby, Howa, etc roll up their sleeves and start offering new and innovative/exciting products.

about the most we have seen is triangular barrels.

ALL of the stuff Savage is doing can be mimiced by any other brands in minutes yet no one has seen the need to maintain or gain on market share.

that's it too bad cause it certainly cannot be helping their bottom lines.
